Seriously, if you can do better you should get a job as a translator. It pays well.
but many translations these days of blogs and songs etc are done by people who "sorta" know the languages. Especially for blogs/radio/whatever where casual speaking is involved, this shows painfully much as "casual" Japanese and things similar to slang are used and a lot of people don't understand it.
Even after many years in an L2 environment (to the point of "fluency"), slang terms and colloquialisms are often difficult to understand, and even harder to translate into one's first language. But even so, someone else's flawed translation can be helpful because just as you may catch their mistakes, they may correctly interpret a term that you have missed, and thereby you can triangulate your way toward a fuller understanding of the source material.
And you should see what passes for translation from Japanese to English by the professionals. My good friend just had to spend weeks re-doing someone else's multi-thousand dollar translation project because the "Engrish" was such total shite, literally laughably bad quality, and what's worse is that the first edition had already been published.
Anyway, you guys kvetching is like someone going to McDonald's and afterwards complaining that the beef isn't top quality. Why the hell are you eating at McDonald's? Stick to appropriately elite five-star restaurants and leave Makku for the people who don't have the time or money for a gourmet meal.
And I like Eripon's hair.
