Seriously, if you can do better you should get a job as a translator. It pays well.

but many translations these days of blogs and songs etc are done by people who "sorta" know the languages. Especially for blogs/radio/whatever where casual speaking is involved, this shows painfully much as "casual" Japanese and things similar to slang are used and a lot of people don't understand it.

Even after many years in an L2 environment (to the point of "fluency"), slang terms and colloquialisms are often difficult to understand, and even harder to translate into one's first language. But even so, someone else's flawed translation can be helpful because just as you may catch their mistakes, they may correctly interpret a term that you have missed, and thereby you can triangulate your way toward a fuller understanding of the source material.

And you should see what passes for translation from Japanese to English by the professionals. My good friend just had to spend weeks re-doing someone else's multi-thousand dollar translation project because the "Engrish" was such total shite, literally laughably bad quality, and what's worse is that the first edition had already been published.

Anyway, you guys kvetching is like someone going to McDonald's and afterwards complaining that the beef isn't top quality. Why the hell are you eating at McDonald's? Stick to appropriately elite five-star restaurants and leave Makku for the people who don't have the time or money for a gourmet meal.

And I like Eripon's hair.

Why would someone give a final "Go" for something that's shit? The executive didn't know English or were their standards just that low? Ugh. Sucks for your friend, really. Unless it.. gave them money, of course, lol. In which case it's a good thing for your friend.

I don't mind Erina's hair either... Why do people mind it? lol

The author was Japanese and didn't realize that the translator (also Japanese) had made a shitty translation. The publisher just took the translator's output and went with it without doing any additional editing. The author might be able to sue for breach of contract or for failure to provide proper services but everything was done in the US and it would be too expensive and time consuming for them to pursue a legal remedy. So my friend did a retranslation as a personal favor. Although according to him the original Japanese manuscript wasn't all that compelling to begin with. Anyway, mistakes happen all the time, even with good translators. If you're getting paid by the word, which is common, then you can't spend a lot of time with every nuance, and some things will get overlooked in a lengthy document.

My God, they really are bad. I don't even think they're boots. They're shin abominations or something.

Also I kind of like Erina's hair, it's just that she has the same poofs that Haruna has and in combination with her hair it looks...odd? Lets go with odd.

The "boots" = Sneaker+Shoe hybrid. And it looks like they just have those leg warmer sock things put over-top of them.

As for the translations: Agreed with +Kyu, Parhelion and boinsie.

Oh, those shoes are wedge sneakers. They probably would look better without that furry mess.

I don't mind the shoes. It seems like they might help enhance the choreography, since they're not wearing pants or long socks or anything else on their legs.

As Eripon's hair... well, she looks good with anything
