So I finally bit the bullet, and did a full reinstall of Windows 10, this time on the solid state drive that I had installed a while ago. The old Windows installation had been on a 500 GB disc based hard drive, and it was so full of junk that it took at least 20 minutes to even boot up! Now, my system starts within a minute or two, and everything so far is nice and clean, although I don't know how long it will stay that way. But just installing Windows, updating it and getting some basic software for work put on the system has been a fairly epic journey, and I'm going to spend a lot of the weekend just reinstalling software and logging back in to websites!
Spinning disks are still good for back-up duty, but having an SSD for the OS is a great idea. Linux is not without hair-pulling moments but it's been working for me since I had a bad reaction to Windows 8. Whenever I'm on a windows machine these days I find myself highly annoyed ("what do you mean I can't open another tab in the file manager!?"; "so if I want to move this window I have to drag it from the bar?"; " you need to scan for viruses??" etc).
Wild turkeys eh? Alright, alright, alright!
