One of my best friends has lived in a town in Minnesota like that for his entire life (population 1434 at the time of the 2020 census). When I went to visit him for a week 20 years ago, the only fast food place was an A&W, the only movie theater had one screen, and the only bookstore was a little Christian bookstore, though there was a market that surprisingly carried some manga in English. I don't think it's changed much since then. The nearest "city" with an airport and a multiplex (the bustling metropolis of Bemidji, population 14,574 in 2020) is about 50 miles away.
