You have my condolences.

One of my best friends has lived in a town in Minnesota like that for his entire life (population 1434 at the time of the 2020 census). When I went to visit him for a week 20 years ago, the only fast food place was an A&W, the only movie theater had one screen, and the only bookstore was a little Christian bookstore, though there was a market that surprisingly carried some manga in English. I don't think it's changed much since then. The nearest "city" with an airport and a multiplex (the bustling metropolis of Bemidji, population 14,574 in 2020) is about 50 miles away.

At least you'll have the Internet.

I cancelled my SF Chronicle subscription today. The paper sucks anyway except for the comics and the Jumble. Even the Sports was starting to suck. I warned them too. They just can’t seem to deliver the paper many days in a row anymore for some reason, so I cancelled. Will be saving a bunch of money. Maybe I’ll try it again in 2023, who knows.

^ I used to get the Sunday edition, mostly for the "Pink Section" (that's the Datebook, the arts and entertainment section, for those of you not from around here) and the TV schedule, but I haven't even done that for ages.

I grew up with the Chronicle, and for a long time, it was the newspaper, even when we lived in Santa Maria, 300 miles south of SF. But those were in the long-gone days of Herb Caen and Ralph J. Gleason.

^ If they would just deliver the damn paper I would not have canceled. But having to call every other day is not acceptable. After years of excellent service all of a sudden there is a problem with delivery. They must be in trouble because you can't even talk to a real person now. Currently it's automated to cancel and subscribe.

It gives me an excuse to go to the library now to get the sports info plus I can get the comics too.
