This was the first year that I've heard virtually nothing on the 4th. There were a couple of pops late last night that may or may not have been fireworks, but that's it.
On a normal 4th of July, I would have gone to a barbecue at my friends' house in Berkeley, but they cancelled it again because of COVID. Instead, I went shopping on my street. Some places were closed for the holiday, but I managed to find a birthday present for my sister, who turns 50 on Thursday, and a used book and two funny t-shirts for myself. I also went to
Barney's Gourmet Hamburgers and had an excellent but expensive lunch.
I just bought my first post-lockdown concert ticket, to see the
Dickies in November at the tiny live music venue in my neighborhood. There are a couple of shows at the Stern Grove Festival in San Francisco that I'd like to see before then, but since they're free and reservations open up while I'm at work, I'm not holding my breath.
