I finally accomplished something and started seeing a nurse practitioner this week! She was really nice, as was the rest of the staff. I had lab work done on-site, and I go back to the medical center on Tuesday for an MRI.
She also gave me an order for a right knee x-ray; the thing hasn't felt right since I landed on it after missing the bottom stair. :') GI referral was no issue. Working on some other referrals, pending the outcome of said labs and MRI.

This is all very uninteresting.

Hope everyone's new year is going well so far. This first week's been a real doozy!

I just bought my first new car yesterday. It was a long toad but I finally got there. I was planning on doing it on my own but after talking with my mother we decided to use her car as a trade in to help bring the payments down for me and make to do she’ll no longer have car insurance or an excise tax to deal with now that she’s out of work. She also really can’t drive either since her stroke, so there’s that factor too. I basically took over her car a year ago to drive her everywhere like appointments/shopping etc.

But anyway, I’m excited!

It’s a Honda CR-V, Blue!

So yesterday was an up and down day. My mothers friend who is like a second father to me, and who helped me go through this whole process of car buying for the first time, went to the dealer yesterday with the title to my mothers car and the letter stating she traded it over to me. I had to work so he didn’t mind doing it for me.

I got a call around 9 from him with a problem. Well my mother did a tiny screw up on the back of the title and they rejected it. (She started signing in the wrong spot) To get a new title I’d need to wait 30 days since the last title was pulled which would mean first week of February and I guess they’d hold the car till it came through. Or give them $10,000 for the trade in and I’d get the car this week. My heart dropped into my stomach when I found this out. I just about cried. I called and told my mother because she was in the process of canceling her car insurance. She felt worse! It was a mess.

My mother’s friend then offered to pay the $10,000! The dealer, being of a good standing said it’s fine that you can trade in the car later at the same price we made a deal for. So I paid the $10,000 and in a few weeks when I get the new title and sell the car I can pay back my mother’s friend.

But now we’ll have two cars for awhile. I guess on one hand it’ll give us time to clean out the garage so I can fit the new car in it.

It was such a bad day yesterday that I blew off the game night my boyfriend has with his friends and brother. I just went to bed.

Anyway, now I just need to spend today trying to find car insurance.my local AAA office is closed due to Covid and that was going to be my first stop, their website can’t give me a quote (my car is no new it’s not in their system) but now I’ll need to call and that’s not ideal during work hours.

I was pleasantly surprised to find taco flavor Doritos at the corner store today. It's an old-school flavor from my childhood that they occasionally bring back with retro packaging.

It was all the more welcome since the trend has been to discontinue things that I like. No more sweet chili sauce at McDonald's, no more roast beef at Subway, no more cajun rice at Popeye's.... And of course, Noosa blackberry serrano yogurt, one of the most ingenious ideas ever, was presumably too exotic for the lowest common denominator and got the axe.

I wonder if that's a regional thing; the last time I ordered Popeye's, they definitely had cajun rice. (God how good is that stuff, right?)

They've also had the taco flavored Doritos at the stores here for years.

Some of it's definitely regional, some of it maybe even store-specific. This was the first time I'd seen taco flavor Doritos in a while, so at the very least they're something that a lot of stores around here don't stock. I don't think I'd ever seen them at this particular store. This store also used to have Haribo ginger lemon gummies (one of my favorite candies), but I don't see them at any of the local stores anymore, though I'm sure they still make them. They're even out of them at the nearby German deli/grocery, but that may just be due to COVID-related supply issues.

The disappearance of cajun rice from my nearest Popeye's seems to be a very recent development. When I was there a week and a half ago, it was still on the menu, which they hadn't changed yet. The woman at the counter said that they'd also discontinued the corn (!) and the green beans, but she didn't know whether it was a chain-wide thing or not. Looking at the Grubhub menu for the Berkeley location (half a mile farther from home), it appears that all three of those sides have been discontinued there, too.
