And I was at the office, looking at Facebook, when I saw that Sushi Maumee Bay (which is speech-to-text for TsuShiMaMiRe) was going to play an unscheduled gig at a skate shop in Fullerton, so here I am at the Burger King, waiting for the show to start. And what can I say? It's a skate shop gig.
And that is the great and horrible thing about 2018. Half the people who show up at a more or less punk gig at a skate shop in Orange County look like they're is old as me, and they may very well be.
Okay. I think I'm in an insane and somewhat nihilistic mood. I'm standing outside with a few other people waiting for one of the opening bands to get done, and I find myself thinking,
Am I waiting for the 21st century to end, or is it still the 20th century? And this is without a doubt the real OC. There's a vape store, a gamer supply shop and a skate shop all right next to each other. And in the middle of them is a flower shop, just in case you managed to injure yourself vaping, gaming, or skating. And I swear that across the street there are two more skate shops, although one of them maybe a surf shop. But it all has that OC air of infinitely extended adolescence taken to a degree that makes my own extended adolescence look almost amateurish.
Edit: I just got out. It was a great gig! There were only about 20 people there, but that was perfect for a skate shop. I bought their latest CD, and talked with them a little bit afterwards. I still feel slightly insane and nihilistic, but in a good way.
If madness made us strong, we would all be invincible.
