Like I've said many, many times the fact they even attempt to translate the lyrics is a miracle in itself, and something they really don't need to do. H!P is one of the very few Japanese acts that actually acknowledge their non-Japanese fanbase and I give them credit for trying to cater to their non-Japanese speaking fans. And if the translation isn't perfect so freaking what? Is a perfect translation gonna sell more CD's? No. So why waste extra money on a perfect translation when random dude that already works there that knows some English can do it? They don't make any money from translating this. I mean, how bout instead UF decides to say, screw the overseas fans, take your 1:30 long short version of the PV and like it. Or better yet, region block the PV so we can't see it at all. If you want a clean, HD PV then buy the DVD or Blu Ray. But I know I get a full length, 480p quality PV for free and if I gotta deal with suspect subtitles then that's life. I barely notice them anyway cause the girl's usually have my attention.

Eh, I'd say a lot of the time they don't even do that. There are so many nuances and whatnot that they miss. Shit, in the Nen ni wa Nen MV they straight up mistranslated 不安. It refers to feeling anxious, not feeling depressed.

Yes. In my opinion, even then. They didn't get the exact emotion right but knowing that particular lyric is about an upleasant emotion is more informative than not even knowing if it's about an emotion, a potato, or yesterday's newspaper.

And again, my point is that the reason you get to be annoyed because you already know it's "wrong," so actually the flawed translation doesn't mislead you after all, it's just an annoyance. Meanwhile the people who are actually being misled are totally in the dark about the extent of it. But they still know the song's about the perils of not planning ahead and that's more than what they knew just hearing "Ta Toe Way!"

Pretty much every subtitled movie you ever saw or translated book you ever read has some portions where the translation doesn't quite catch the nuance, and may be totally wrong. As I'm sure you're aware from experience, even English subtitles in English movies omit shit all the time (deliberately!) and occasionally will completely get a phrase of dialog wrong by accident. But people still use the subs with their muted TVs while yakking on their phones -- despite knowing the agonizing reality that subs provide a degraded experience!

It's getting the point across not getting into detail so you miss what's going on, on the screen. Your brain kinda fills in the rest. Or at least mine does. Subtitles aren't meant to go into great detail. If they did you're probably have a wall of text where a music video use to be.
