there was one performance where Mizuki was off on her part, and then i believe also the mic recording that came out early on (which i believe was from a concert) made me cringe through her line, though granted i didn't think anybody besides Reina sounded good... but Riho's attempt was better than Mizuki's attempt yet people always focus on Riho.

not that i have anything against Mizuki or her singing, just noting people's lack of judgment against Mizuki while there is no hesitation when it's Riho.

you mustve missed when everyone was saying mizuki was boring, and her singing lacked emotion.

haruna, erina and ayumi sounds horrible most of the time but people don't attack them either.

from what i remember, mizuki herself blogged appologizing for her itoshiku kurushii performance. i'm not gonna deny that she did pretty badly during the first few performance of Help me but the best thing about being mizuki's fan is that whatever flaw you see in her, she notices them too and actually try to overcome it. that's better than nothing.

There's also the obvious fact that Mizuki isn't being touted as the next ace. She's not being made to punch above her weight.

Agreed. Compared to the other new members Mizuki always seems like she knows what she's doing. She has experience. But for some reason despite her solo lines and the fact she lead Help Me she doesn't seem to be getting ace treatment but more like the kind of treatment Gaki got where she gets a fair amount of focus and line without being the limelight.

Riho is currently the most stable and reliable singer out of the whole 9th and 10th gen, her voice being pleasant or not depends on personal prefence, but other girls have struggled much more on lives, maybe with the exception of Haruka, who I'd like to hear more, but that'll come eventually.

Heck, even the mighty Reina has missed a note or two in recent single performances (1.2.3, wakuteka mainly), and she has said that notes are too high currently, but that's gonna be some good practice ofc.

She wasn't getting the correct tone, but after Sakura sang a litte, Riho nailed it.

Uh....I'll go away from another "Riho's voice" discussion for a moment and remark what a great news it is that the song is still charting. Considering that it's the fourth week, I am very happy that it still sold the way it did.

Anyway, going back, being a good singer doesn't always mean you get ace treatment. Aces are more a marketing tool than a vocal anchor for the group, like Abe Natsumi who wasn't the best singer in her generation but was arguably the most popular. Obviously, Riho doesn't even have half of Natsumi's vocal skills, but she is a bit more popular than Mizuki in Japan so her being an ace isn't something that's hard for them to understand.

They don't get solo lines. If Riho sang as little as them no one would care. But like Koharu she's getting these lines in songs and sounds bad. Not as bad as Koharu mind you but yeah.
