I just get confused because sometimes the handshake events are for preorders where the single copies were already bought so they don't count towards sales. Not new sales at least.

that's true actually, they could have been pre-ordered.. but considering some of the events weren't announced until later and any other events coming have yet to be announced, those SHOULD be newer sales.

yes, but H!P has been working around it for awhile now.

Tower Records, HMV and Shinseido sponsors most of these events, theres no limit. so its a kind of loophole. these stores are Oricon vendors.

Each time a single is release, only 30% of the copies sold at non-Oricon vendors (for example, like in a handshake event) will be counted towards the chart. This means, that if an artist sells 10,000 copies via non-Oricon vendors, Oricon will only count 3,000 of those copies.

Oricon indeed only counts physical copies sold by Oricon approved stores to people. The 30% thing for non oricon approved vendors can be ignored, the absolute majority of record stores that stock idol stuff are oricon approved and the majority of idol groups including H!P ones have learned long ago how to work around that 30% rule for event sales anyway.
