To put things in perspective, BK is an idol group that has had the same line up for eight years. How many non-generational idol groups last that long, let alone sell more than 30K after eight years?

I beg to disagree about one thing; I may have been there for MM since Do it! Now, if not before, but I was also there for AKB since Skirt, Hirari. Both groups have lifelong fans, and recent fans. Both groups gained fans at their peak, that's just normal. If MM was ever to sell one million again, would we shun new fans and tell them they are just "hopping onto the bandwagon?" i hope not, i hope we'd welcome them with open arms.

Hell in that regard, there are many former Momusu forum members from way back in the day, that jumped ship to AKB48 when they got popular. More exposure in Japan means more exposure to Jpop fans overseas. I just really don't like the fan that complains when a group, or anything in general for that matter, gets popular and they start to whine and hate about it being too mainstream and such.

I'd think we'd welcome newer fans... hell, old schoolers like us have welcomed most of these kids already.

As for Berryz and their 30K even with those numbers they sell better and lasted longer than a lot of idol groups.

So proud of them and UF for learning that promotion is key to survival. I hope all this news coverage will only bring people around to the fact that Morning Musume isn't dead yet. This pretty much sums up how I'm feeling right now.

This always breaks muh heart to think about. Bc I was originally a SweetS fan and we hated on Berryz so hard. I think the term was "pedo-bait" lmao

Berryz have had an amazing career. Idols hardly last a year, much less 8 and going strong.

Idol group Morning Musume’s latest single “Help me!!” (released on January 23rd) sold 93,000 copies in the first week, and topped Oricon’s weekly single chart. This marked the first time for their single to top the charts in 3 years and 8 months since they last accomplished it with “Shouganai Yume Oibito” (released in May of 2009).

This has also become their 52nd single overall to rank in the TOP 10, thus they updated their own record for “the total number of singles ranked in the TOP 10.”

“Help me!!” was their first single since 11th generation member Oda Sakura joined the group, and also the first No.1 single after Michishige Sayumi became their 8th leader. Michishige commented happily, “I am extremely happy that our first single in 2013 brought us this result! This is the[b] first time topping the Oricon chart for our 9th, 10th and 11th generation members. I hope more people get to know about the current iteration of Morning Musume with this result.”[/b]

This single also allowed Morning Musume to be the 3rd female artist to have topped the chart in each of the past 3 decades. They accomplished this in the 1990s (with “Daite HOLD ON ME!” & “LOVE Machine”), in 2000s (with “Happy Summer Wedding” & “I WISH”), and 2010s (with “Help me!!”). The only other 2 female artists to accomplish this are Nakajima Miyuki and Hamasaki Ayumi.

and now that i just read it lol... dw about them most of the people that are commenting are weaboos, kpop fans. I wouldn't be surprised if people that were commenting such things were ELFs.
Im not surprised though, this is typical butthurt fan behaviour. If we were to account for all the groups that used cheap gimmicks, oricon sales would be completely different.

Ain't it ironic that the moment they start playing everyone else's game they start selling well again and achieve #1? Congrats to them, but it's not b/c the single was especially good that it made #1 nor b/c of the girls talents as its still mainly about the same old girls. Behold the power of gimmicks! I've lost all respect for this group.

Great, the gimmicks are really heating up now. Congrats I suppose, but remember ladies, you didn't get this success b/c of your talent. And let's just see if you can do it again shall we?

Another AKB wota and MM wota, by the way if you read the article this is not the first time they made weekly #1 asshole.

You can't make fun of Morning Musume and say that they're using cheap gimmicks when other groups like AKB use a shit load more of cheap gimmicks...
They're just stupid fans, which is worse since they're not sticking up for the girls. Thats like saying "Hey I want you to do well, but you don't deserve anything for your efforts." Dreadful.
