Oh, poop. From Japan have increased their commission fees.

Dear From Japan Members,

We would like to express our gratitude to our loyal members for your continued use and support of our service. I am writing to you as Tomohiro Kuno, owner and CEO of From Japan Limited.

We would like to take this oppourtunity to humbly thank you for using our service. We are also contacting you to notify you of changes to our commission fee charges.

Until now, for members purchasing items in Japan from abroad, we have tried our best to keep the amount you pay at cost price. Since December 2008 we have done this by offering our services commission free.

However, for the past few years, while we have continued to persevere at keeping costs flat, we have reached a point at which we are no longer able to operate on a commission free basis. This is an undesirable situation, however one which has become a reality.

Until now, we have gained much experience from, and had the pleasure of hearing from many customers and we understand that one of the most important things to a lot of customers is keeping costs to a minimum. There are also bound to be many customers who place a priority on website usability, performance and overall user experience as a top priority.

As customers who use our service regularly will realise, time taken to pack items has become slower than before. From this year, we began actively holding various campaigns together with Rakuten. We would like to continue with these campaigns which we believe many customers can benefit from. However, in the face of a increasing number of items passing through our warehouse, and while we have increased the number of staff in order to provide the best service possible, we have had to ask for slightly more time from our customers for packing. For the inconvenience caused with the time taken to pack your items, we offer our deepest apologies. From now, we shall be doing our utmost to ensure no further inconvenience is placed on our customers, and we will return to packing with speed and efficiency.
We plan to considerably improve this situation.

In order to support more of our members, balancing all customers needs and providing a satisfying service to everyone, we shall now be charging a flat rate of 200 yen per item on Yahoo Auctions Japan. While a fee on orders from website orders shall also be charged at 200 yen per item with a maximum charge of 800 yen per order*.
*This maximum charge applies only to items in your shopping cart which are paid for together.

We are very sorry to trouble our loyal customers with this new burden. However, in order to provide an even better service for all of our customers we feel this is necessary. We shall also be doing our very best to provide the best service we possibly can for our customers.

From here, all of our staff shall be trying even harder and will aim towards satisfying our customers needs beyond all expectations. As always, thank you very much for your support.

We offer our sincere gratitude from the whole team at FROM JAPAN.

So an 18-item shipment like my last one will now cost $45 more.

So it's 200yen extra per item at an online store, but only 200yen per auction at Y!A? This makes no sense from an it's-getting-hard-to-pack-things POV.

^ Further clarification from today's e-mail:

Auction Example:

If in the same auction, you win more than 1 item, the 200 yen charge shall only be applied once.

Shopping site Example:

If you order one type of item in a different colour, size, etc, or order multiple amounts of the same item, the 200 yen Commission fee shall only be charged once.
* We point we wish to stress is that for items in the same order number, please understand that these need to be sent to the same address and cannot be sent to seperate addresses.

No, the fee appears to be one 200yen fee per auction. If the auction is a lot of 20 photos, then it's 200yen. If you buy 20 auctions from one seller that are all ending at the same time, it's 4000yen.

CD Japan / Neowing is having its holiday clearance sale between now and Dec 20…

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/offers/sale/clearance_sale.html

H!P stuff appears to be 20% to 30% off, and almost everything released in the last two years is on the list.

I'll leave it to someone else to go through and pick out the individual listings.
