But yes, so many things in H!P/UFA seem to happen in four-year increments that it's almost certainly the length of their standard contract.

I always thought it was 2 years, just that practically no one yet has given up without renewing at least once.

To re-appropriate what Celadam had to say about Kikkawa..

She'd be better off as an actress who happens to sing than as a singer who happens to act.

I loved Mano at the beginning. Her piano gig was cool and her not-quite-there singing was endearing. Then she had some non-piano-based songs, which I still enjoyed up until a point, but... I dunno. Somewhere around Genkimono de Ikou! I just stopped caring so much about her singing career. Sure, her actual voice had gotten better technically, but now it lacked the rawness it once had... it didn't stand out much, and was just kind of bland. Without her sweet piano accompaniment as a novelty anymore it just kind-of... passed me by. Add on top of that that her music videos started being directed by real people, but started just being... weird and less relateable to me somehow.
At the same time that I was getting (for lack of a better word) bored of her singing career, she and UF* also seemed to be... she released far fewer singles, and was doing a lot more acting.

Overall, I think it's time.
My main weird-out is that it wont be until next Feb. o_O;;

even she will more focus to drama, stageplay, movie, etc. but i think she should release some of her single between her future work

Her last album was great! But she didn't have any spectacular singles since Genkimono de Ikou correction, I forgot about: Seishun no Serenade

Anyway, maybe she was a bit tired of idol life, she's not getting any younger and she said that she feels lonely sometimes, so she saw that moving on was the right decision.

Plus, I believe she's a very good actress. Her career can definitely go into that direction
