I'm really happy that UF* chose to put Haruna on this show. The hairstylist purposely wanted a girl with long black hair because during the tsuyu season (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Asian_rainy_season) he said it could give the image of being very heavy and unpleasant. Therefore, UF* could've easily sent Sayu since she fits the criteria AND she's easily 100000000x more recognizable than Haruna.

Haruna also did a pretty decent job. For the majority of the video she was completely forgetful because she didn't say anything, and if it was Sayu you know she would've put in some decent soundbites throughout the whole thing, but in the end when they asked her for an opinion she did really well and stated that it would be a really cute hairstyle for yukata (summer kimonos). All the guests praised her for that one comment and she deserved it because it did go really well with what she had done. And during the credits when she promoted the Suppin Utahime Audition she delivered it really well, as if she's done it before.

Kudos Haruna. You got a few points in my book.

She wasn't forgetful, she was doing what a good model is supposed to do: be unobtrusive and let people focus on what she is modeling, not on herself.

Our Western culture of celebrity supermodels has made many people — including many young people who say they want to be models — forget what a model actually is.

Of course, Haruna is no longer just a model, so maybe she needs to adjust herself a bit, but at that moment she did nothing wrong.

Especially since she's not just a model but an idol not affiliated with 48 she needs to work a lot harder to get her hard work recognized. And you seem to make it sound as though Japan has a different model-culture than America when in fact Japan has a much more interesting modeling scene what with dokusha models (dokumo) and what not. If anything Japan has a greater celebremodel culture with model-turned actress/singer and tarento-turned model (and in Koharu's case idol-turned model). Yeah, sure people who tuned in probably thought "Oh, there's a pretty girl in MM." but that's probably all they thought. If UF* wants to push Haruna as a model-idol (as they should) they need Haruna to show off her personality.

I agree. I was editing my post to add the last sentence at the same time you were posting yours.
