kurikaesu.haru wrote:"I thought it would be a cute song, but I was surprised that it's a cool song" (Sayashi)
--The new song, "Ren'ai Hunter," is a song about a cool girl who's assertive in love, right?
Niigaki: Yes. The previous one, "Pyoko Pyoko Ultra," was a fresh song, but this new song is cool and its message is strong. I myself am encouraged by the words "I won't run away no matter what" that are in the lyrics, and there were times when I would tell myself, "Ok!" while singing them. It's the last song that I'm singing as a Morning Musume, and I think it's determined to be a sharp and cool song.
--What were your impressions when you first heard the song?
Sayashi: When I saw the title, I thought it would be a cute song, but I was surprised that it's a cool song. During the recording, I tried to sing with a sense of a slight pretension to being an adult.
--It seems like it's hard to sing like an adult. In addition, was there anything of which the song made you conscious?
Kudo: There's a part in the chorus where we sing, "Wow wow wow." Unable to continue singing well and on the verge of going, "Wow ho-- ho--," I got flustered!
Niigaki: If you sing, "Ho--! Ho--!" it'll become cheerful in an instant, won't it? (laughs)
Kudo: Hahaha, that's true (laughs). Besides that, when I put myself in the position of the person who sings, "Don't blame others," and think of what the lyrics mean, I realized that I often fight with my siblings and blame others. I thought that if I sing, "Don't blame others," I myself shouldn't be blaming others, so I changed my habits. I've even become able to say, "I'm sorry," obediently when my mom scolds me, so my mom was surprised and asked, "What's wrong?" I'm very grateful to have received this line from Tsunku-san.
--What's the music video like?
Mitsui: It's kinda like a cosmetics commercial. It was done in a stylish way. We all have straight hair...Ah, it might be kinda like a shampoo commercial! There's a scene where our hair sways in the wind, all sleek and smooth, but it was hard to film it so that it looks soft and gentle. Because our hair gets all ruffled and unkempt.
"I ate 103 bowls of wanko soba!" (Sayashi)
--So, you're currently in the middle of your spring tour! For the 10th generation, this is your first tour as Morning Musume, so might you be constantly nervous?
Kudo: Yes. At first, I was anxious and wondered if we'd be ok because there are a lot of songs. However, our seniors are pulling us along, teaching us the choreography and such. I'm still struggling, but when I saw fans waving penlights that are orange, my own color, I was reassured that there are people supporting me.
--For Sayashi-san and the rest of 9th generation, you've now had several tours. What are your current thoughts?
Sayashi: In the beginning, there were a lot of things to remember, such as our positions and choreography, so we were bewildered. Even now, we still confirm our moves with our seniors and brace ourselves every time we stand on stage. With this tour, for the first time since I joined Morning Musume, we're going to my hometown, Hiroshima, so it'll be like a performance after a successful tour abroad, and I'm looking forward to the interaction with the fans.
--From Niigaki-san and Mitsui-san's perspective, how does the growth of the juniors look?
Niigaki: It's robust. Also, every time juniors join, I remember the time when I myself joined. The seniors pulling the juniors along, maturing because of the juniors, friendly competition among fellow members of the same generation...I think that kind of image is very Morning Musume-ish.
Mitsui: With the 9th gen, there were also various incidents, such as Sayashi getting hurt. However, I think their bond has deepened. They do things like cover for each other. As for the 10th gen, I get the impression that they often discuss things together.
--Were there any interesting incidents during the tour?
Kudo: When we went to Morioka, all of the members went to eat wanko soba.
Mitsui: Ah, yeah we did. We all went starving.
Sayashi: Yeah. I was starving, so I ate 103 bowls of it!
Niigaki: That's right. We're very fast at eating, so there wasn't enough soba.
--The power of a starving group sounds tremendous. The last of that tour. On May 18, the Nippon Budokan performance will be the graduation performance for Niigaki Risa.
Niigaki: The tour started on Feb 18, but it's a countdown to May. I think that day will come before I know it. For me, half of my life has been spent in Morning Musume, so I love Morning Musume. That's why at the end, I want to burn out completely.
