In Time

Awesome! I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. JT shouldn't do anymore crying scenes, though.

Watched Army of Darkness for the first time in years tonight. Oh my god, did my childhood come haunting back. I swear my older brother must have quotes half of that movie all the time. Gah, so good in its campy ridiculousness.

Have you ever seen a Japanese movie called Stacy? In that film, a popular accessory used to "repeat kill" teenage girl zombies is a stylish, lightweight chainsaw called "Bruce Campbell's Right Hand 2" -- or as its label has it, "Blues Campbell's Right Hand 2"!


The last movies I saw:

In Time -- It had a very interesting premise, and I enjoyed it a lot. I also thought its message (with its applicability to the current 99% vs. 1% Occupy Wall Street goings-on) was very timely. *rimshot*

The Lady Hermit -- Classic Shaw Brothers wuxia film from 1971, starring the magnificent Cheng Pei-pei in the title role.

Birdemic: Shock and Terror (2008).

Ho. Ly. Shit.

Words can hardly describe how craptacular this movie is. Okay, the female lead is cute, but everything else about this movie is mind-numbingly AWFUL, right down to the sound editing. At least it's a Manos: The Hands of Fate kind of bad (so inept it's laughable) rather than an Actium Maximus kind of bad (makes you want to gouge out your eyeballs).

Aaaanyhow, I'm looking forward to The Secret World of Arrietty. I'm hoping for a Ghibli rebound after the silliness of Ponyo.

Watched Scre4m last night, and... yeah, no. It was basically a terrible re-telling of the first film, with no insane meta mind-trip like was advertised. In the end it just didn't even make sense.
Don't waste your time on it. DX

City of Ember

Started with a great premise, appealing leads, and an intriguing first act. Unfortunately, it quickly fell apart due to bad editing. Toward the end, sub-plots were abandoned and some connecting scenes were obviously cut for time. As such, it was ultimately unsatisfying.

I would love to go back and explore that world more thoroughly, however.

Where the Wild Things Are

Wow, I need to think about this one for a while. Maybe watch it again.

Using a child's dream logic and playground games to teach some pretty heavy lessons about life, death, family, love, anger, fear, loss, loneliness…

…and the music…

Just wow.

It has its flaws, but even so, I think it's one of the best films about childhood that I've seen. The emotions are pure and almost impossible to analyze, and that's the point: children feel, but they don't understand.

Attack the Block -- A gang of teenage hoodlums goes to war when aliens invade a South London council estate (what we would call "the projects" here in the States). Fun stuff.

Clue - I have no idea how I didn't seen this until now, but I wholeheartedy recommend it to anyone who's into comedies and murder mysteries! Loved Tim Curry as the butler.
