Seasons 1 and 2 are now available for free on Prime Video's YouTube channel…

The first two episodes are a premise pilot, and I'll admit they're not great on their own. They were written before the Kickstarter became a record success and Amazon ordered a full series. The real story begins in the third episode.

From five, almost six years ago…

I like the Magicians, at least well enough to keep watching it. I don't think I'd recommend it though…

I finally started watching it, because it's leaving Netflix next month and I don't want to miss my chance. I'm enjoying it so far. An adult mashup of Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia with a CW-esque veneer of "dark and sexy" to make it "mature".

Yeah, but that's okay once in a while. RL is tough right now, so I welcome the distraction for a couple hours each night. (That's what it will take to finish the series before it leaves Netflix.)

In fact, it's gnawing at my brain in the same way that the knowledge of Fillory gnaws at Quentin, or the knowledge of Brakebills gnaws at Julia, or the knowledge of Narnia gnaws at the Pevensie children. I'm literally dreaming about what it would be like to get lost in that world. A bittersweet "lifelong journey in an instant" kind of thing. It's weird, but not unfamiliar. I got similar feelings from Cloud Atlas (I read the book first), Locke & Key (again, read the book first) the Otherland series by Tad Williams, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (IYKYK), the "Heaven Sent" episode of Doctor Who, and the final episode of The Good Place.

Glad you're enjoying it! I never quite finished the series because it ended up in a direction I wasn't thrilled with, but in fairness I sometimes have a problem getting back into shows after a hiatus even if I like them quite a bit. Mr. Robot comes immediately to mind, along with Arcane, The Witcher, and our oft-discussed Vox Machina. Speaking of shows, one idle evening recently I watched the first episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and while it is most certainly a kids' show, and a Disney show ( :( ), it was way better than it had any right to be, at least that initial episode. It was almost Spielbergesque.

I hope RL gets a bit more bearable.

^ I also left The Witcher at some point even though I was enjoying it quite a bit. Same thing Peaky Blinders (I hear they're wrapping it up with a movie instead of a final season. It's currently filming).

I have another crime drama recommendation for anyone else who may have been living under a TV-Land rock. (It concluded after 6 seasons back in 2015, but there was a re-boot recently also, which I have yet to consume). The neo-western Justified will leave you relaxed, stimulated, and wanting more - like when your favorite Country Girl uploads a 30-second dance clip to her Insta :D . Okay maybe it's not quite that universally appealing, but I liked it.

This clip first got me interested:
(bit of a spoiler for season 5 but not really)

In the first season or two dialogue required volume bumped up at times, and then there were loud gunshots which was annoying :geek: I don't look for a side dish of hearing loss with my entertainment (subtitles can help).

Justified takes place mostly in Kentucky. Here's a song from the 90s that is part of the soundtrack.

Thanks. I've been slightly curious about Justified, more so after I saw Walter Goggins in the excellent "Fallout," and this makes me a lot more curious.

Continuing with The Magicians, it was bugging me that Alice (Olivia Taylor Dudley) reminds me of someone else and I couldn't remember whom.

Well I just did: she reminds me of Syd (Rachel Keller) from Legion.

Thank God. That was driving me nuts.

Yes, Goggins is gold! :D

He had is upper front teeth knocked out in an unfortunate baseball incident as a kid. The dentures impart this beaming quality to his smile

Continuing with The Magicians, I just finished Season 1.

Oh yeah, this is the good stuff.
