Nacky goes Shopping with FatherFor starters, Father inputs the shopping list by voice (into the smartphone). (あ)
As a result, I notice just now that zucchini is courgette, and paprika is capsicum hey.
aside: paprika = red pepper
For now, I'm heading to the supermarket (car zooming)
This supermarket is something like Japan's Iyon(?), I think.
It's not extremely cheap, and it's not extremely expensive either, kind of thing.
Unexpectedly, even in NZ everything has been individually wrapped in plastic (disappointed).
1:00
Mushrooms are found, but green onions are missing.
Father is carefully checking the list. W
Father is careful with the camera. W (not to block it with bok choi)
Me being excluded from seeing the list.
moving, moving (backing that kart up)
This is the fruit section
This is a thing in NZ
(E) "What's that? Oh, go ahead" (to kid taking fruit)
While shopping (your kids) can eat this fruit. -management
"free fruit, wow!"
You know, I was really shocked seeing this for the first time. W
You eat it while there (wide eyes) W
2:00 rustling in bag
"Today I was carrying stuff like this with my own strength" (bag of pears - lol)
Wonderful eh (thumbs up)
It seems that the bananas are separated into ones that you can eat right away and ones that you wait to ripen.
"Mandariiin?"
Next we're searching for mandarins...
or so I thought, then I discovered something else.
(E) "Oh, coconuts!"
They don't sell them like this in Japan, I told him.
(E) "We don't sell coconuts like this".
We don't, right? (thinking)
He's explaining to me how juice comes out of that hole.
And you can hear what's inside, right? He made me listen. (cry-laugh)
(E) "That's good! Fresh! Oh, cheap. Mangoes are also cheap".
I can't find the price for mangoes (cry-laugh) ...
Now we find the mandarins were were looking for. (orange)
They said we're going to use these for apple crumble! Looking forward to it! (holding back tears, heart)
*father delivers apples*
This is where assistant Nakajima finally springs into action.
*bags some onions* First job W
The potatoes are in a different spot so Father is thinking about efficiecy.
We got lettuce!
There are so many! W (potatoes)
There's tons of these (muffins ... ?)
We've made a pile of stuff (hand-heart)
confused 4:10
I made the connection to Japanese
It was bean sprouts. W mung beans
(J) "Meat is for sure ... gonna buy!~"
But before that, Father has some bread recommendations to give. W
(E) "Yaaay, bakery... heeheehee... but not today"
(E) "huge!"
These are drumsticks, right? (thinking)
The seasoning is also really foreign!
The chunks are also huge.
(E) "Block! What's this? Block Beef."
When I just asked what this was Father picked one up for me (gratitude)
(E)"Corned beef". (He explains what it is)
This thing is also huge eh! (whole lamb leg - 15lbs? lol)
(5:17) This thing with bones included is something eh? "ho~ waa~!"
(J) "When you look at it like this it looks like lower back, doesn't it?"
(J) "Oh, it's yakitori~!... It's huge." Yakitori discovered!
The eggs are all free-range, and the price is has risen a lot.
(J) "That's right with bread there is a ton of variety"
(missing)
"Why...?" (a single slice of bread sits alone in the aisle)
Did something happen?
(E) "Ehh... escaped bread! lol"
Next we have to problem of figuring out which feta cheese would be good.
It looks like there's cow feta and goat feta. There are too many choices! (head exploding).
Finally, we thought that cow feta is fine, right? (lol)
He was searching very seriously! W
He seems to be searching for the drink that we all like (lol)
Before that, we arrive in the jam section. (6:37 - English Style Marmalade chosen)
(E) "My favorite."
"Lime juice?" Did we drink that? (thinking)
In the middle of thinking.
For cooking purposes we decided not to buy it here.
Father recommends some biscuits.
Continuing on (E) "yes, I think so, that purple one".
We found the instant coffee I had wanted... but it turns out to be slightly different. (roll eyes).
In the end I bought the one we found.
These camp-food-looking packs in the supermarket has a NZ feel to it maybe? (thinking) 7:28
This is very foreign! (candies that look like colourful bbs)
Father likes prunes, it's the first I've heard of it. W
Japanese section! (homesick, hinomaru)
'Did you know we had this?', he asked me, and I told him, 'no I wouldn't have thought you did.' (?)
There are also a massive quantity of supplements. (missing)
These look like dog food (dog). (tubes of meat)
(E) "Ice Cream section~. This one; Oreo!"
This is a request from Mother - this shopping trip's most important item.
One week's worth of food! It's a mountain of stuff!
(E) "A lot!~"
Self-checkout was an option but we went for the manned option because there was a mountain of things.
This is a battle against time. (emptying the cart onto the conveyor belt)
The way stuff is lined up (on the belt) also looks foreign, doesn't it.
Thanks for watching!
