Ohhhhh I do vaguely remember you mentioning this behavior! Yeah ok that would be pretty obnoxious. I had a torchdown roof for 5 years and it was a constant headache.
Have you considered metal flashing to protect the areas they're rubbing?

I saw this on TV recently. You have to be careful not to get a crow pissed off at you. This man had to go to hospital for stitches to his face. I would use an umbrella if I was him.

Using bluetooth and a bluetooth speaker to get a very loud volume. Should be better than clapping my hands which scares then off my roof but hurts my hands.

My big bang theory … my noise is bigger.

I do not know if my prayers have been answered :innocent: or is it just coincidence? Since I used my “Big Bang” idea, crow activity on my street has dropped significantly ~90%. I have not seen the two big bully crows around, and whole families seem to be gone, but it has only been three days. I see a fly-by scout occasionally. Today I saw three crows having a pow-wow as they were looking in my direction as I worked doing gardening. By the time I got my Bluetooth from my house they were gone. I was going to blast them!

But today I played a game of “crow chicken” with a crow hidden in a tree a several houses away. It was making a lot of noise with a four-caw message over and over. The game went like this:
caw-caw-caw-caw
BANG!
caw-caw-caw-caw
BANG!
caw-caw-caw-caw
BANG!
caw-caw-caw-caw
BANG!
caw-caw-caw-caw
BANG!
Then the crow was stopped. It was a knock-out in the 5th round. My noise was bigger.

Last time a crow showed up in the tree near my place I just told him in a serious voice "hey, get out of here", and he left. Sometimes I point at them as if I'm holding a rifle.

I also have problems with little birds roosting in my eves. I measured and cut little pieces of scrap wood to put into the gaps where they like to nestle. One time I chased away a couple late at night using my broom and a flashlight. I felt chuffed to have won that battle against those 2oz fiends, but a few nights later I was going to the woodshed with my headlamp on and a small bird dive-bombed into my face not far from my eye(!). I definitely was a little more patient with them the next time :|

In the L. A. area, I think the parrots tend to keep the crows from being too dominant - of course, the parrots are complete party birds themselves, flying around in large, noisy flocks and getting drunk and rowdy on fermented berries, but that's kind of entertaining. :mikihead:

It's an interesting balance you have there - parrots might work better than rednecks with shotguns :yinyang: :smiling:

Looking back in this thread I discover that it is actually a duck thread. So here is my duck contribution, a startling news story from a couple months ago.
