I feel like we've been seeing a lot more exposure for Angerme lately. I'm sure some if it is a push by UF to make an event out of Takechan's departure, but wonder how much Kamiko's recognition factor comes into play in making it a success? I mean, I feel like Akari isn't really too well known of her own. As leader, she's been more of a loyal steward than a front-girl in her own right. In general I wish H!P did a better job of putting at least one girl per group as focus points for the public eye. I mean, it's kind of a feature of H!P to give each and every girl some solo voice and camera time, and I appreciate that, but I think you still need to have some girls really stand out, even among their peers, to catch attention.

Like for instance, in MM both Rios are super-photogenic. They should be pushed out there as a duo unit, maybe covering a few W songs, magazine covers, interviews, the whole nine. The public doesn't need to know or care that they are in different generations or whether or not they're close personal friends in real life. I could imagine a "Morning in Rio" photoshoot with the two of them in carnaval outfits or something. :smiling: But if not as a pair, then at least Kitagawa. She's one of the few in all of H!P who could rival Makino for gravure-level looks but it feels like she's been a bit squandered as a resource.

Back when I was following *48 that was one of the things they were good at, and I presume still are. You could tell they were targeting certain girls for stardom. It meant something to know that management was behind your oshi as well, that if you picked one of the popular girls to support, you could be reasonably sure that she would continued to be featured prominently. Maybe though, that constancy ends up discouraging to the backfill girls (and their fans), who know they will never rise to prominence no matter what they do??

2ch summary post translation
I wanted to do this one immediately since I came across this yesterday. I translated it mainly using DeepL and then corrected some parts or edited them to get the nuance through. It's just a fun thread, and not meant as a knock on Roko.

OCHA NORMA: What did you guys who judge people by their looks think about the fact that it was Tsutsui Roko, not Tashiro Sumire, who had the tougher personality?

Spoiler: show
1: 2023/06/06(Tue) 14:04:11.78 0
The reality is that the H!P members whose looks are preferred by H!P wota are the ones with the toughest personalities.
TL note: When they were introduced, Roko was seen as having looks that are preferred by Japanese H!P wotas, while Sumire was considered more beautiful/cuter by general standards.

6: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 14:08:29.21 0
Sumire's personality is just misunderstood because she is a gal.

7: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 14:09:07.32 0
Roko just says what she thinks.

9: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 14:10:02.64 0
Roko is a good, honest girl.

8: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 14:09:53.64 0
Out of Yanafuna (Yanagawa Nanami and Funaki Musubu), it was Funaki who had a tough personality.
You can't judge a person by their looks.

28: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 14:35:49.74 0
Well, Chii-chan (Morito Chisaki) was much more foul-mouthed than (Shimamura) Uta too.

11: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 14:16:36.65 0
Even in the past, Sayu (had a tougher personality) over Reina.
Momochi's personality was also harsher than Miyabi.

13: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 14:22:46.56 0
Sumire is a normal, funny, subculture-loving, popular girl.

14: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 14:24:43.66 0
Sumire is a nice girl who can make connections outside of H!P.

109: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 21:42:58.05 0
I remember last year when Sumire did an event alone at Tower Records in Kawasaki, she was so kind it kinda surprised me.

15: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 14:26:59.03 0
I want to be bullied by Roko-chan while being comforted by Sumire.

16: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 14:27:38.36 0
There are not many strong characters in H!P, so why not?

18: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 14:30:35.51 0
The entertainment industry is a competitive place, you have to be strong-willed.

19: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 14:31:51.10 0
It's common for people with communication disorder to hurt others with rejection because they can't trust others.

Right from the start Roko had a stubborn look on her face lol.

Looks like she would be strong in a fight lol.

44: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 15:00:55.15 0
She's from the Kudo lineage, right?
TL note: I think is a reference to her being similar in personality to Kudo Haruka, but I am not sure.

57: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 15:13:23.13 0
Even when Roko does something selfish, it comes across as cute like the youngest child being naughty.
Everyone in the Ocha Norma family understands that.
Outsiders should keep their mouths shut.

68: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 15:45:53.22 0
From the beginning, Roko has said that you had a better chance to get accepted into H!P if you were quiet.
TL note: I am not sure if the commenter really meant that Roko herself has said something to this effect in the past or that someone else said it or that it's a generally accepted opinion about H!P.

71: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 16:19:51.56 0
The good news is that Shumire is a pretty nice girl and is turning out to be an idol on the inside.
TL note: Sumire is sometimes called Shumire by Japanese wota in a cute manner. It probably has something to do with the greeting on her blog "YapoShumi".

74: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 16:38:00.09 0
I want to be told "You did your best! Good job, good job!" by Shumire.

77: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 16:54:10.58 0
I want to be told "You always come home late on weekdays, and you are just lazing around on weekends. You are such a pain!" by Roko-chan.
TL note: The Japanese wording makes it seem that the commenter wants to be scolded by Roko. Some weird fetishes out there.

81: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 17:25:22.92 0
I want (Hashisako) Rin and Roko to fight each other.

82: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 17:26:57.21 0
Did Roko-chan do something?

83: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 17:29:49.92 0
No she didn't.

85: 2023/06/06 (Tue) 17:30:47.54 0
She is in peak rebellious phase.

Being on the "So cute" track just for being a younger member can also be a burden on those younger members.
The older members need to understand that.

Roko is just in her rebellious phase.

It looks like Matsuoka Mayu's version of GTO : Great Teacher Onizuka. Mayu was cast in the GTO sequel in 2014.

Hello Pro Lyricist Kodama Ameko has been nominated for an "Akutagawa Prize" for the first time for writing a novel she wrote.

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Literature have announced the nominees for the 169th Akutagawa and Naoki Prizes on June 16th. The selection committee will be held on July 19th at Shinkiraku, a Japanese-style restaurant in Tsukiji, Tokyo, and the winning novel will be announced later the same day.

The Akutagawa Prize nominees include first-time nominee Kodama Ameko (29), who writes lyrics for songs by Hello! Project idols and others. She is nominated for her medium-length novel she wrote titled "##NAME##" (Name), released in the Bungei 2023 Summer issue on April 7th.

It was a theme I had avoided since I was a student submitting to the Newcomer Awards. There were several reasons, but the biggest one for me personally was that my writing ability, composition skills, and above all, my spirit had not yet caught up with it to reconstruct and tell it as a story.

Kodama Ameko "##NAME##"
The time I spent with you in the light is called "darkness" by others. Yukina used to be a junior idol.
She is addicted to the dream novels of shonen manga "Double-Edged Alex" and reads them with her name left blank. This is a shocking work that shakes up all kinds of preconceived ethics.

Oh wow. I remember she said she was writing a novel. Imagine if she win the prize ... that will be big. Winning Akutagawa basically guarantees you a writing career.

Ishida Ayumi was a guest on Youngtown radio show today. She and Sanma-san talked about how to decide the next leader, either Ikuta or Ayumi. Sanma tries to pressure Yokoyama to decide who would be better.

Ayumi : "I want to be the leader of Morning Musume, and we can vote on it among the members."
Sanma : "LOL"
Sanma : "It depends on whether she (Ikuta) wants to do it or not, but she can turn it down."
Murakami : "But Ikuta-san won't say no."
Sanma : "Ikuta would never turn down a job even if she didn't have the right qualities, and I think it should be Ishida though."
Ishida : " I'm glad to hear that, because I'm someone who wants to do it, I'm curious to see how the group would fare if I became the leader."

(omitted)

Sanma : "I really want to vote, though."
Ishida : "It will be interesting, I want to do it."
Sanma : "if it comes to a vote, you two (Ayumi, and Yokoyama) won't be chosen."
Ishida : "That would be awkward. Surprisingly, Yokoyama and others would get votes."
Sanma : "No one writes about Ikuta or Ishida, because there is such a thing as popularity.
Yokoyama : "Wait, how did you determine that?"
Sanma : "It's the company, and I don't think they've made a mistake in selecting the right people so far, except for Mikitty, although she admits it, but she took responsibility for it!"
Ishida : "That's very serious."
Sanma : "But Ishida still wants to do it. Hey Yokoyama, if it were a popularity contest, who do you think it would be?
Yokoyama : "It's going to go all over the place, like two votes each won't decide it."
Sanma : "Can't you get a majority? It's either Ishida or Ikuta, career-wise."
Yokoyama : "I have no idea."
Sanma : "The truth is, you've almost got it figured out, and you've got two choices."
Yokoyama : oh really..."
Ishida : "My junior is most uncomfortable with this kind of topic. LOL"
Yokoyama : Fukumura-san has always been the leader.
Sanma : "Fukumura has everyone's trust, she was stable, you got two choices."
Yokoyama : "I can't say."

Hmm, if they go by popularity, the next MM leader would be Oda?

Erina-Ishida joint leadership, happy medium? I could imagine Nonaka being a subleader in charge of the younger gens but I'm more certain Morning Musume will stay steadfast in seniority tradition.
