Juice=Juice's 17th Single : PRIDE BRIGHT / FUNKY FLUSHIN'

I have always been perplexed why Juice=Juice record sales have been the lowest of the Hello Project groups. I guess it is because they have a more mature selection of songs (Future Smile, Downtown, etc.) which I myself prefer over the kawaii songs. But they can still fill up a stadium with fans. Their performances show the more mature side of the group.

The 2nd A-side's title was rumored and unconfirmed awhile back to be a cover song called FUNKY FLUSHIN'. It seems that was correct. They performed the new song at their Goodbye Nakano Sun Plaza concert today.

FUNKY FLUSHIN' is a city pop song originally written by Minako Yoshida and sung by Yamashita Tatsuro in the 70's


It was also covered by a three-member Japanese boy group called Shonentai in the 90's. Here is their version


Popular boy group TRAVIS JAPAN danced to the song, the Shonentai version.

FUNKY FLUSHIN' : Minako Yoshida is a singer and songwriter from the 80's who sang some city pop songs with Yamashita Tatsuro. Aksel Odenbalk is the Swedish arranger rearranging the song.

Juice=Juice will release their 17th single "Pride Bright / FUNKY FLUSHIN'" on July 12th. Of the songs included, "FUNKY FLUSHIN'" was announced and performed live for the first time at the "Sayonara Nakano Sun Plaza Music Festival" on June 8th.

This song is an official cover of Tatsuro Yamashita's 1979 RCA classic "FUNKY FLUSHIN'. It is a groovy summer song with sophisticated track-making by a Swedish producer team and the chorus by Tatsuro Yamashita's tour member.

This cover will bring new excitement to Juice=Juice, which has released covers of "DOWN TOWN" and "Plastic Love" in the past.

All the members listened to the original song before recording, and sang the song with the groove that each member felt! We sang the song in a summery and refreshing way, in true Juice=Juice style. In the latter half of the song, the members line up and do the same choreography, and I hope you all get excited together!

I LOOOOOOOOVE Yamashita Tatsuro. FUNKY FLUSHIN' is a good choice...I bet they'd do a good job with Morning Glory, that would be a good album track or B-side.

Yamashita also has credits on DOWNTOWN and Plastic Love, they call out that J=J also covered those songs but not that he has credits on them.
