"Be simple. Be direct. Nothing fancy."

I like that Princess Irulan's role as an investigator and historian (a backchannel diplomat, really) is highlighted in this version. It was almost completely missing from Lynch's version, except for the prologue, and that was more about using Virginia Madsen's beauty to grab the audience's attention…

Irulan has an even larger role in the subsequent stories (Dune Messiah, Children of Dune), so I hope this means Villeneuve is laying the groundwork for additional films.

^ Casting for the above has got me hyped
Spoiler: show
Christopher Walken as the (tapdancing?? :hehe: ) Emperor Shaddam IV

Anyway Dune Messiah's Alia was my first literary crush as far as I can recall. I know they'll never do my youthful imagination justice, but I am still looking forward to a proper production of the rest of the saga. And by rest of the saga I mean the whole glorious Ghola Idaho'ed, God Emperored, Miles Tegged, Honored Maitre'd, No-Shipped mess. Not including any of the Brian and Kevin stuff though. At its best it's serviceable fanfic, but for me it doesn't even deserve the imprimatur of the Dune font, the classic or the new.

Finished the 1st season of Jujutsu Kaisen. I'm trying to imagine what it would be like if the whole show was like the little Juju Sanpo bits at the end.
I wonder how they'll tackle the Shibuya arc tbh! It took a long time to get through it in the manga; maybe they'll trim it back. I'm more surprised that they decided to not replace the VA for Geto.

I'm reading the manga of this (only one volume behind currently) and it's really good. Usually these kinds of series are a bit boring for me, but there's something comfy about this one. It's a slower romance with some astronomy thrown in and I'd definitely recommend it to people who want a well-written, solid romance that feels realistic (disclaimer: I have never been in a relationship lol). The anime seems to be getting more people interested in it too, which is good!

As for me, I'm still enjoying the new Pokemon. It's fun watching kid's shows and being able to play around with the characters. It's nothing special, but it's decent for what it is. The characters are all really good.

I'm pretty sure you're the one that recommended the manga to me. It's delightful! (I've maybe cried over it a few times.) The anime has been pretty cute so far. I'm excited for the movie!

The Animated Series (TAS) was as woodenly animated as the worst of late 20th century children's cartoons but many of the stories were unironically good, being penned by professional SF writers like Larry Niven(!) and scriptwriters from the original series like DC Fontana. It's also considered official Star Trek canon. I might be misremembering this but I think there were a few official novelizations as well. There were also unrelated vinyl + comic book dramas that came out shortly after TAS run, a few of which I had collected from conventions when I was a kid but regrettably lost track of at some point while moving house. Some of the audio can be found at this playlist. The same YouTuber also did a bunch of TAS style animations himself, but not as flawless as the Gazelle ones linked to by Celedam.

I've been on my soapbox on Twitter about this all week, but Kodansha's new manga app is... trash tbh. Could've pulled a Shueisha/Viz and made it subscription based, but instead it works like a gacha game.
