It was a sweet story/poem about those that hop about the world. I definitely identify with the duck. I'm stuck here in the "nasty" San Francisco bay pond.

It looks like the rain has finally stopped around here for a least seven days hopefully. It was serious rain. I feel for those in flood zones and those that had trees fall on them.

3 years of not getting sick and now I have strep throat. I'm sure I got it from my dad because he's just now getting over a double whammy of strep and the flu.

Ugh, hope you feel better; I can relate. I used to get that pretty frequently along with a chronic post nasal drip and other ENT annoyances but it's been aeons now.

Browsing through a couple of old threads and getting mad at myself from, like, a decade ago (or even 7 years ago). No, self, you're wrong! Your opinions are terrible!

Granted, my opinions are still terrible, but like, in a different way.

I try to avoid even having opinions about a lot of things these days (vague, flaky impressions are much easier to deal with).
But I am impressed with how bad my thought processes can still be, after all this time. XD

Man, learning to code is fun. It's frustrating when things don't work exactly how you want them to, and being a perfectionist while trying to design a website sucks because you're never satisfied, but seeing things come together is pretty neat.

Granted, a lot of what I'm doing is taking pre-existing code and modifying it to work on my site, but that's what the entire IT industry is, right? /s

^ No sarcasm tag needed. An honest developer will tell you that they spend as much time digging through the Microsoft, GitHub, SourceForge, and Stack Overflow websites as they do writing their own code.

And a truly honest developer will tell you that most developers — including him or herself — don't write much original code at all. They just maintain existing code or implement the ideas of a superstar lead developer.

And those superstars are becoming rarer and rarer. The old ones are aging out of the industry, and there aren't as many new ones because people today grow up with smartphones instead of command prompts.

That's why people in the industry are so excited/concerned about AI. Already it can do what most developers do, so the superstars will be free to work quickly, cheaply, and independently. The relationship between Tony Stark and J.A.R.V.I.S. that was depicted in the Iron Man movies will probably become reality within our lifetimes.

Yeah, makes sense. I was mostly using the sarcasm tag since I don't know all that much about coding/IT, and I didn't want to come across as disrespectful lol.

Honestly, as wary as I am about AI in some capacities (deepfakes, data mining (which already happens, but like, AI can make it happen faster and also more widespread), art (as in anything creative), and probably other obvious fields I'm forgetting about), I think in terms of coding it actually makes sense. Using computers to figure out how to code seems logical to me, and it's not like it's something subjective or creative in the same way as writing or drawing is -- coding is logic. There's a specific right and wrong. For logic-based sutff, like coding and other forms of programming, I think AI is genuinely a good time-saving (and cost efficient) solution.

I personally enjoy the challenge of trying to figure things out on my own, so I haven't tried the AI route yet (I know ChatGPT can be useful for it), but if I get super stuck on something and nobody on the official forums for the service I'm using has a solution, I might look into it. It's definitely an option I'm keeping in mind just in case!
