And now a second animated series based on Critical Role's second campaign…

Critical Role really exploded in popularity during the early part of Campaign 2 (circa 2018–2019), so they tapped some semi-pro animators to produce fully animated opening credits for their show.…

Of course the new animated series will be produced by the same studio that is producing The Legend of Vox Machina, but that video above should give you the basic idea of the character designs and whatnot.

Campaign 2 is a bit grittier and morally grey than Campaign 1. Less dungeons, dragons, and other high fantasy tropes; more political intrigue, cosmic horror, and German folklore. So it should be interesting to have the two series running concurrently. Compare and contrast.

I'll end with a link back to this…

It blows my mind that those scenes could be fully animated soon.

Can't thank you enough for the Friedle content (and animated series updates in general)! Wouldn't have known where to look for a quick peek, but I'm happy he still seems like a chill guy.

If I haven't persuaded you to watch The Legend of Vox Machina, maybe this will…

Episodes 7–9 of Season 2 just dropped a half-hour ago, as I type this.

From table to screen (massive spoilers for Critical Role Campaign 1 and The Legend of Vox Machina Season 2)…

Yes, it's really based on their live game. Some characters and events have been rearranged a bit, to improve the overall narrative, but iconic moments like this one have been preserved pretty much as they happened.

I believe this is why the whole series feels so organic. It isn't a scripted story, it is simply what happened.

I'm enjoying this more than I enjoyed Game of Thrones, even at its peak. I knew the source material then as well, so there were no surprises for me, just seeing how well the source material was adapted. I think this is better.

Looking forward to Season 3.

So I’d only seen a few MCU films and never really cared for superhero movies (except maybe Black Panther) until recently, but I resubscribed to Disney+ last month to entertain some kids at school and decided to watch all the films from Iron Man (even those not on Disney+) and now I just finished WandaVision and am on the films released last year. I’m going to catch up on the other series too, since at this point it’s just for the sake of completion.

It’s just crazy how I’d avoided the whole thing and then watched it all in under a month (with a hectic full-time job and all).

The movie "Everything Everywhere All at Once" won 7 Oscar awards. Well deserved.

^ Not only seven Oscars, but seven Oscars in key categories: Actor in a Supporting Role (Ke Huy Quan), Actress in a Supporting Role (Jamie Lee Curtis), Original Screenplay, Editing, Directing, Actress in a Leading Role (Michelle Yeoh), and Best Picture. Quan, Curtis, and Yeoh were all first-time Oscar winners, despite being in the business for decades. Ke Huy Quan's story is especially moving: They finished filming the movie right when the COVID lockdown hit, and while the film sat around, waiting to be released, he couldn't get a job. At all. It was such a joy to see his excitement at the Oscars, especially when Harrison Ford (Indy!) read the winner for Best Picture. I was also happy to see the legendary James Hong get some recognition at the ceremony. "Seinfeld, four!"

I was supposed to go to a book club meeting yesterday, but I stayed at home to watch the Oscars and cheer for Everything Everywhere All at Once. There are few films that I've been so excited to see after seeing the trailer, and there are even fewer films that I've seen three times in a theater within the first few months of release. (Star Wars in 1977, before it was "Episode Four: A New Hope"? I can't think of any others.)

Another thing about the Oscars: I got a kick out of seeing Jamie Lee Curtis's husband being all sedate and dignified, since I mostly associate the Right Honourable Lord Haden-Guest with his character Nigel Tufnel, saying things like "Lick My Love Pump" and "These go to eleven."
