I finally got around to seeing Prey on Hulu. It's a prequel to Predator, which I never saw, although I think I saw both Alien vs. Predator movies. In this film the main character was a young 18th century Comanche woman named Naru played by Amber Midthunder, whose only other role I've seen is as the character Kerry Loudermilk in Legion. Anyway, in addition to being stalked by the "Predator" character, she also had to do battle with the patriarchal elements of her society and with a group of cruel, dangerously armed French trappers. Overall, it was good. I'd have enjoyed seeing it in the theaters had it been theatrically released.

The Thundering Sword (神劍震江湖) (1967) — Classic Shaw Brothers wuxia starring the magnificent Cheng Pei-Pei. This was one of several DVDs I got from a friend last December as part of an ongoing process of decluttering her apartment and cluttering mine. I still haven't watched most of them, though I've seen most of the movies before.

Then I ended the year in the Whedonverse by watching my DVDs of Much Ado About Nothing (2012) and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (2008).

[EDIT]

My first movie of 2023: Frühstück bei TiffanyBreakfast at Tiffany's (1961) mit deutscher Synchronisation. I enjoy watching foreign-language dubs of some of my favorite English-language films from time to time.

Two movies nominated for best movie that I regretfully watched on cable. Both in my opinion GARBAGE.

Everything Everywhere All at Once
worst Michelle Yeoh ever :( EVER

The Banshees of Inisherin
depressing, and finger guy was right, BORING

As they say, there's no accounting for taste. That's my favorite movie of 2022. I saw it three times in theaters, once on DVD, and again on DVD with the commentary track. I will admit, though, that it might have been better without the buttplug and the hot dog fingers....

As for me, I enjoyed both films, but I'd rank Banshees a little higher than Everything Everywhere. Although I might have to buy the DVD if it comes with a commentary. I enjoy the commentaries as much as the movies or sometimes even more. At least I used to, but now that streaming is the main means of distribution, sadly commentaries have become a rarity. As for Banshees, it had a definite arthouse vibe; I could see it not really appealing to a lot of people. But I love black comedies, and the soundtrack was outstanding, with Brendan Gleeson fiddling himself. :-P It was probably the best film and best performance by Colin Farrell that I've ever seen. That's not saying much, perhaps, but even so.

 The only reason why I even posted was when I saw these movies, I didn’t know they were nominated for Best Picture. When I saw the list I couldn’t believe it. The only characters that I had any empathy for was a donkey and a dog. They were adorable. I rest my case your Honor. :whistling:
