My REAL ID™ driver's license arrived in today's mail. Yay! I don't have to think about dealing with that again for another five years!

I must say, though, that my license renewal went smoothly. Contrary to all the pop culture tropes about hellishly interminable waiting at the DMV, my appointment was scheduled for 10:20 and I was out of there by 10:45. (No driving test was required; that would have taken longer, of course.) And I only had to wait 13 days for my new license to arrive in the mail. So to the California DMV!

^ I hear ya. Rather than rushing to get the REAL ID, I opted to wait until my license was about to expire. If REAL ID had been required for air travel etc. before now, I have a passport. But Homeland Security just announced today that the deadline has been extended for two more years.

I’ve been using a passport/passport card as my ID since 2013 because I never lived anywhere long enough that I managed to go to the DMV and get a state ID lol. In fact, I got a passport card made because I was renewing my passport anyway and wanted something I could just stick in my wallet.

^ I do have a passport card but I think I've only ever used it once. I always end up just showing my full passport on such occasions where it's needed.
