I just hope whoever won the big bucks seriously needed it.

The Mega Millions craze is a great example as to why Alabama needs to hurry up and get a freaking lottery going here tho.

My parents used to drive across the Georgia border for that. :P

Now they just have me buy them.

I did a freelance gig several years ago writing specifications for an interstate lottery ticket sales app. The whole thing was based on the assumption that pretty much all restrictions on interstate online lottery sales would be lifted (which doesn't seem to have happened); I got paid, but I don't think the project went anywhere. XD

Forget all the new girls and whatnot, probably the biggest news in recent months is that Kawamuu is apparently lurking here and lowkey trolling us... :P :P :P

 After years and years of reading the San Francisco Chronicle's Comics (the best part of that newspaper), I could never figure out Dunesbury. It's always a waste of time. But today for the first time ever, at least I got a little chuckle out of it.

Anybody know why this stupid thing is even in the comics?

Maybe I feel this way because I lost $100 betting on him to win and he lost by a nose. Years later I won half of it back by betting on his son. Still owes me $50. Racing primarily in California, Doonesbury won seven stakes races and placed second in eight others in his career. He had lifetime earnings of $427,000 in 23 starts.

Doonesbury (the comic strip, not the horse), was so tied to a particular moment in American pop culture history (really, not much more than a few in the early 70s) that it was never able to shake off its origins and become something else - simply looking at a panel or two of a Doonesbury strip now makes me want to run to almost anywhere on the Internet (XKCD, AI Weirdness, a random meme generator, a forum full of 15-year-olds threatening to doxx each other - it almost doesn't matter) just to clear the cobwebs out of my brain.

And Doonesbury (the horse, not the comic strip) was doing the best that he could - it's not easy running around in circles like that (and horses don't even get to chase a mechanical rabbit!) XD

Imagine reading rikkikow's post, not knowing Doonsbury was also a horse. :fear:
I always wanted to like Doonsbury--I enjoyed its art style, and at a point when I was a young teen, there was a slightly older teen girl character in it that I'm sure helped to attract me... but I definitely didn't know/care enough about current or historical politics to properly get/appreciate most of the storylines.

I went through a period where I was into Doonesbury as a kid. It made me feel a bit sophisticated, like drinking coffee or listening to Yes albums. But in hindsight it didn't leave much of an impact or create fond comic strip memories like Calvin and Hobbes. My favorite non Marvel/DC comic/manga as a kid was an old strip I came across in compiled volume form, called Pogo. It was like a 1950s Doonesbury Winnie-the-Pooh Mashup. It had some political undertones, but took place in a fictional swamp populated by talking animals.
