Nakano Sun Plaza to close on July 2nd, 2023; Plans to have a "Commemorative Concert" and "Retrospective Exhibition" also being considered

The Nakano Sun Plaza complex in front of JR Nakano Station (Nakano Ward, Tokyo) will close on July 2, 2023, according to data from the Nakano Ward Council. The reason for the closure is the rebuilding of the building as part of a redevelopment project. The city will consider holding a "closing commemorative concert" and a "Nakano Sun Plaza retrospective exhibition" in conjunction with the closure of the building.

A New facility to be completed in 2028

Nakano Sun Plaza opened in June 1973. The distinctive white triangular-shaped building houses a hall with over 2,000 seats, a hotel, restaurants, and other facilities.

The hall has hosted concerts of a wide variety of genres, including enka, rock, and idol music, and is well known among music lovers.

In May 2021, the details of a redevelopment project by Nomura Real Estate Development Co. and others were announced, which called for demolition of the current facility and construction of a new facility with a combined hall and hotel with a maximum capacity of 7,000 people. With the goal of receiving an urban planning decision by the end of 2022 and completing construction of the facility in 2028. the current facility has been the focus of much attention.

At the meeting of the boards of directors of both the facility operator, Nakano Sunplaza Co. and the facility owner, the closure of the facility was decided for July 2nd, 2023. The company stated that operations, excluding the hall, would end at the end of June of the same year.

In closing the building, the company is considering holding a "Concert to Commemorate the Closing", a "Hall Backstage Tour", and a "Nakano Sun Plaza Retrospective Exhibition" as part of efforts to "preserve the legacy" of Nakano Sun Plaza in memory of the building. The company is also considering events for ward residents, such as tours of the facility.

If they plan on having a closing concert I hope H!P get a nod and are invited considering how much they’ve used the concert hall and filmed there.

I was watching my favorite Japanese van life couple drive to Okayama prefecture (where OCHA NORMA's Nishizaki Miku is from), and they visited the biggest Japanese Penny Candy "Dagashi" Store in the city of Setouchi. In their video, they were shopping for candy and in the background you can faintly hear OCHA NORMA's Koi no Crouching Start in the store. It's really short.
