Not very cooperative. I had to chase after her for a picture.

Tokyo Lens has a good video on thrift stores in Kyoto, if you are planning to travel to Japan

^ To quote Lafcadio Hearn, writing about Japan over a hundred years ago:
Curiosities and dainty objects bewilder you by their very multitude: on either side of you, wherever you turn your eyes, are countless wonderful things as yet incomprehensible.

But it is perilous to look at them. Every time you dare to look, something obliges you to buy it—unless, as may often happen, the smiling vendor invites your inspection of so many varieties of one article, each specially and all unspeakably desirable, that you flee away out of mere terror at your own impulses. The shopkeeper never asks you to buy; but his wares are enchanted, and if you once begin buying you are lost. Cheapness means only a temptation to commit bankruptcy; for the resources of irresistible artistic cheapness are inexhaustible. The largest steamer that crosses the Pacific could not contain what you wish to purchase.

It would probably break my heart to go to that first thrift shop in the video, since it would cost a fortune to ship any of those larger items home, assuming that I'd even have room for them where I live. Looking for smaller items in second-hand shops, though, is one of my favorite things to do in Japan, and my luggage is invariably loaded with (mostly) second-hand CDs, DVDs, records, books, and idol goods when I come home. I like to check out second-hand stores here, too, but it's easier to find really cool stuff in Japan. :hehe:

Been in Chicago (Rosemont) since Monday. It’s hot, it’s humid and I feel like I’m in a convection oven.

I have to wear a work uniform so not comfy cool clothes for me.

Going into downtown Chicago tomorrow but unsure what to do. But hopefully it won’t be as bad. Humidity is a killer for me.

It's been in the mid-90s here all week. Supposed to be even worse next week! Factor in the 70+°F dew point... yeah it's pretty miserable. I don't wanna think about July or August.

I hear you! There's an annual conference that I attend almost every summer, and it usually gets scheduled somewhere that is hot and humid. Because, you know, most of the U.S. is like that in the summer. Urgh. This year it's in Albuquerque: definitely hot, but at least not humid.

I've successfully avoided the hot and humid summer months on my various trips to Japan. I've never been over there between May 10th and September 23rd.

I’m in Atlanta for 2 days to inspect my apartment and sign my lease (and just because I’m really excited to move down here in 2 weeks). It’s like 95+ degrees here. I love walking around my neighborhood and surrounding areas though. I’m right by Little Five Points.

Good luck with the move, esm! There's definitely lots to do around that area.
I'll be near Peachtree Center at the end of August so I've been doing a lot of research on the city.
