For some reason I had "1oku 3zenman Sou Diet Oukoku" playing in my head and that kind of influenced my guesses at a pivotal moment.

I'm stumped so far with Thursday though.

I got Thursday's in six, but it's not an obvious answer. I only ended up getting it because the first half is homophonous with something else.

At this point with one guess left, I literally couldn't think of any more words to form using the blank tiles I had left except punipuni, which I knew was wrong because it was missing the characters I'd already guessed. Then I read your clue and guessed it on the next, final try!

A user made a private request for a tag that will post a Youtube thumbnail as a clickable link to the video, instead of the embedded player.

I've added the tag, [ythumb], and we'll leave it up on a trial basis for about a week to see how it works out.

It's similar to the [y] tag, in that you don't use the entire URL, just the unique video identifier.

So for example:

I like that version better. I found that as I was scrolling on my phone sometimes that videos would glitch and start playing. Fine if you’re home. Not so much if you’re sitting in a doctors office full of people waiting for an appointment. Not that, that has ever happened to me or anything, a totally hypocritical situation.

Not so good for me. I use Chrome exclusively for Google sites like Gmail and YouTube, and then I use Safari for everything else. (I shouldn’t need to explain why.) The embedded player lets me watch videos in Safari, and it also bypasses whatever ads might be on those videos.

This is especially important on my iOS devices, where I don’t have either Chrome or the YouTube app installed. (Again, I shouldn’t need to explain why.)

If we’re back to complaining whenever a page is slow or difficult to load, then I will complain whenever a page has more than, say, five large images. Those take longer to load than the embedded player, and putting them in spoiler tags does not stop them from loading.

Besides, the whole point of watching the videos here is so that we can discuss the videos here, in English, amongst ourselves. If we have to click through to the YouTube site every time we want to watch a video, and then look at a wall of comments from strangers in Japanese… That’s building a psychological barrier, one brick at a time. Or rebuilding the barrier that we've worked to tear down. And goodness knows we can’t afford to lose any more traffic here.

Specifically regarding the first point, it doesn't take you to chrome specifically, it takes you to whichever browser you're currently using. I tested this on my phone's "Samsung internet" and it didn't take me to the youtube app or switch to chrome either.

You do not understand. I use Chrome only to go to Google sites and only when I need to. I do not go to any Google sites while I use Safari, and I block Google's tracking on all other non-Google sites. It's a deliberate choice, not a whim of autolaunching apps. When I post YouTube videos here, I copy the links from Chrome and then paste them to Safari.

That's not really the point, though. The point is that deprecating the embedded player makes this site less useful and sends people to another site.

I'm getting older, my responsibilities and interests are changing, and my interest in Hello! Project has been waning. But I still come to this site every day, out of habit if nothing else. I don't care about auditions or tour schedules or set lists or sales rankings or the trivial details of eight different editions of every CD release. I just want to watch some videos, because H!P's appeal is fundamentally audio-visual. And while I'm here, I try to post a few videos as well, because I want to do my part to make the site useful. Y'know, whatever scraps that Amped overlooks, or fun little bits that I've found on my own…

But if the embedded player is deprecated to the point where I'm the only one who still uses it in posts, and I have to go back to the YouTube site to watch any other video posted here, then why should I come to this site in the first place?

I'll probably still be using the embeds when I post a video.* The YT site just doesn't run well on my machine, I only click through to it when I have no other choice. But playing an embedded video here presents absolutely no problems and makes things 10x easier for me. I'd rather wait a couple of extra seconds for the page to load vs have my computer yell at me.

Edit: Not that I tend to post a ton of videos anyway. Mostly just use previewed embeds for myself.*
