I was in Atlanta for the weekend and it rained quite a bit. It was nice to get cooler weather compared to what I’d been getting in DC though.

Also Atlanta was super cool.

I'm not even sure that I remember what it's like to be in cool weather and rain - but it would be nice.

It's not exactly been cool here, but like Zunu it's like we've suddenly become a rainforest with rain most days. It's been weird looking at what you guys are dealing with out west with the drought and conditions that certainly are much hotter than here (though in a ridiculous way). Yay for climate change!

I've been doing a lot of driving around Michigan lately, and this is one of the lushest summers I've seen in my entire life. Relatively cool (i.e., only one day so far that broke 90℉, when the Pacific Northwest's heat wave finally got to us) and frequent rain. I remember almost every summer growing up that by this point in the season, things were turning hot, dry, and brown and would stay that way until well into September. Brush fires in highway verges, caused by people tossing cigarettes out of their car windows, were common. But this year I'm seeing green everywhere. Like a rainforest, as has been said.

Yeah, using the term rainforest for a reason. The weather guys keep calling these "tropical systems", and the way they've run it's exactly how I imagine climate to be in a rainforest. Traditionally in the midwest (I'm close, in Indiana!) we have plains weather systems of isolated storm cells or lines of storms that run through, also mostly dwindling by July, but this summer has been like a completely different climate. Just widespread rain (and not usually storms) developing and dropping a ton of rain in small scattered areas. Exactly the kind of thing I read when learning about rainforests and how localized areas just get massive amounts of rain dumped on them.

Be careful, that term has a specific meaning: weather systems that pull hot, moist air from the equator up into the mid-latitudes. And conversely, arctic systems pull cold, dry air down from the poles. It's the never-ending conflict between tropical and arctic systems that causes temperate, four-season weather as we know it. It might seem intuited or implied that tropical systems cause a tropical climate, but that's not how it works. We're just getting an unusually large amount of rain for this time of the year.

I learned more from my visiting friends that are house sitting here for a week. I mentioned that there were three adult geese in the picture. What they told me is that if there is a single male (unattached) he will help out a family if they have a large offspring and they welcome the help. :giggle: Also, he acts as a body guard for the youngsters.

Also, where they live (that's their house by the way) the geese hatch first. Then the ducks get their turn. XD The migrators eventually leave and the homies stay.

So maybe there will be a duck parade in the future. :hehe: The ducks and geese must have an agreement.
