How is the humidity out there? If it reached 107 in my neck of the woods it would be completely unbearable, but otoh I was in Phoenix during triple digit weather and it was literally no sweat. :?:

Humidity right now is 23%, dew point 62F. It definitely felt much more humid the past two days as compared to today. But it looks hazy outside (a mixture of humidity & pollen I assume) and it definitely feels pretty thick to breathe.

UPDATE: The haze is now partially smoke & ash from a wildfire, apparently. Awesome.

The temperatures are relatively moderate in Southern California right now (mid-80s to mid-90s, and dry), and it is strange and more than a little disturbing to hear about what's going on so far to the north. The heat is bad enough, but in a lot of ways, the potential for massive fires is worse. Stay safe!

(And I'm glad that you and Kai got an AC. Boinsie - that makes such a huge difference!)

The weather here is a gamble, it’s either way too hot in the summer or way too cold in the winter, it’s very rare for it to be just right. It’s 14°C in winter here (or 57.2°F for those that use Fahrenheit) which is not too bad but here we can reach negative degrees such -4°C at night. The heater is my best friend at this point lol XD

DC summers are so hot and humid, but I've been trying to get more used to it so I can be outside and do stuff more.

I started teaching summer school this week and it's all in person now. I'm using as little technology as possible and just writing everything on the board because I'm so over that whole virtual teaching thing. The students have been so engaged and well-behaved so far.

^ A friend of mine who lives in the DC area describes typical summer weather there as "ninety": 90℉ and 90% humidity.

Currently the temp here is 93° but it feels like 103°.

The poor work AC is struggling and the lights already flickered once.

It was 97°F here today. I forgot what it felt like with humidity, but it was awful. Thank goodness for the rain right now because it's cooled down quite a bit.

I just chilled in a friend's pool in the afternoon.

I took my car in for smog certification and an oil change - the shop is a few blocks away, so I walked back, then there again to pick it up in the afternoon. I think the high today was 90, which isn't that bad in dry heat, but I could feel it.

I also got the OK from my supervisor to continue working from home indefinitely (before the lockdown, I was coming in to the office twice a week). I actually like work environments that are very social, but the tech sector tends to extremely bad with that sort of thing - the last time I worked at a software company with a good social atmosphere and people I actually enjoyed hanging out with was in the 90s. The social environment where I work now has been basically nonexistent for the past ten years or so (a handful of people in a largely empty office suite who go through the day without actually speaking to anyone), so I'm not missing anything.
And my supervisor did confirm what I'd suspected, that the company is considering moving - to, I would guess, a much smaller and cheaper location which would basically have room for a skeleton admin staff, our network servers, and occasional drop-in workers. I think it's a good idea. (And of course, we're not the only company thinking of doing that - a massive crash in commercial office space seems likely over the next few years.)
