My boyfriend just called me to let me know someone at his work has Covid and he needs to self quarantine till he can get a test. I’m a little worried because I saw him yesterday. Hopefully he gets a negative test but won’t be getting a test till Monday.

I'm on a stamp collecting forum that only supports ASCII and Extended ASCII, which can be annoying at times. What's even worse is that you can't override that website's autocorrupt settings. If you have a lower-case i with a space on either side of it, there's no way (AFAIK) that you can prevent it from being changed to a capital I. That's all well and good for Standard English, but not for certain Southern German dialects, Swedish, Welsh, Hawaiian, Volapük, Quenya, Sindarin, etc.

I got to know Fry's when I lived in the Bay Area during the dotcom boom, in the late '90s. There was a small dingy one near where I lived (but it had its charm), and then there was another larger one right down the street from where I worked. It was heaven-on-earth for young geeks with money to burn. Computers, electronics, geek toys, software, books, magazines, movies, music, video games… all in one place. Best Buy, even at its peak, was a soulless imitation.

I don’t think I ever experienced Fry’s, but another forum I frequent concluded that Best Buy for all its flaws did a much better job upgrading and integrating its online presence, and also did a better job appealing to non-techies with the dubiously named “Geek Squad.” Walking into its sometimes sparse showrooms can be misleading, but Best Buy is arguably at its peak now, having actually picked up market share in the COVID era, and trading near its all time high. I still miss Radio Shack gotdangit. Though definitely not Circuit Shitty.
