From a year and a half ago…

Well, I finally watched Blade Runner 2049. Perfection. Even better than the original in many ways. One of the few films I've seen in many years that I now wish I'd seen in the theater.

I also loved Arrival. If Villeneuve manages a hat-trick with his Dune

In fact, I think Villeneuve might be the only director working today, maybe ever, who can really do justice to Dune. And I say that as someone who likes Lynch's Dune; it came close, but it was still very much a product of the '80s.

Damn.

Well, here we go. If you can, put this on a big screen and turn up the volume…

The music is a cinematic arrangement of Pink Floyd's "Eclipse", from The Dark Side of the Moon

…supposedly as a nod to the fact that Alejandro Jodorowsky wanted Pink Floyd to score his planned-but-ultimately-abandoned adaptation of Dune, back in the mid '70s.

After the disappointment of The New Mutants (and the rest of this year, frankly), I need this to be good.

(the ornithopters look like dragonflies! with wings that flap! my God, he actually read the book?!)

R.I.P. Dame Diana Rigg, DBE.

Some of you may know her mainly from Game of Thrones, but for me she'll always be Emma Peel, first and foremost.

IMO better that it comes out when it has a realistic chance of making blockbuster money than that they release it while people are still avoiding theaters like the plague. Cough Tenet cough.

Of course. Obviously. But like I said in another thread, this is becoming a farce. Somebody, somewhere needs to break the spell.

This movie was a blast. It felt like the role Millie Bobby Brown was born to play. More breezy, well-crafted stuff like this please, Netflix.

Also, mild spoilers:

Spoiler: show

The woman narrating that video somehow reminds me of an Australian boinsie.
