I just know that the whole routine has improved my skin so much. Even if I was dead tired I'd still do the whole routine every night before bed.

I've started doing the Korean multi-step hair care as well, and it's also been great so far.

I agree totally. My Japanese friend actually mentioned a phrase to me "Keizoku wa chikara nari" and she basically explained it as consistency is key.

I also started a proper skincare routine in the past few years and it has made such a difference to my skin. I am definitely intrigued by SK-II but I could never bring myself to spend that much on a product.

The most expensive thing I use is a jar of mositurizer that retails for ~$25 that I stock up on Costco when it goes on sale (bringing the jar down to ~$16/jar for a two pack). And even that I had to justify it to myself initially "Am I really about to spend $20 for a jar of creme to put on my face??"

That being said when I add up all the costs of the different skincare product I do use it would probably break $100 if I had to replace it all at once.

And I thought I was being extravagant today when I bought Cleasby, Vigfusson, and Craigie's An Icelandic-English Dictionary for $125.

That's actually a very good price for the real hardback Oxford edition of this book, which is what I got, as opposed to the crappy paperback CreateSpace reprint. This copy also belonged to my friend and former professor, Gary Holland, who passed away last year.

 this is the worst day for air quality in the SF east bay
Alameda / Oakland – smoke
Concord – smoke
Livermore – smoke
Castro Valley – smoke
Hayward – smoke
Berkeley – smoke
Mountain House – smoke
it’s 10:00 AM and it looks like 5:00 AM, no sun
Thank God the temperatures are only in the mid 60’s F.

What do you expect when the gates of hell have been opened.
California is a total embarrassment.

^ You beat me to it.

This is how my neighborhood looked at 9:57 this morning. When I called in to work a few minutes later to say I wouldn't be venturing out into this post-apocalyptic mess, the manager answered the phone with "Good evening?"

This So Cal orange red haze is going on for consecutive mornings now. There is ash raining everywhere. It's throwing my wake up schedule off. Sometimes I wish our house had an Air Purification system installed. The whole state looks like Mars.

The images have been really terrifying to see. Please stay safe, everyone!

A longtime friend in Portland, Oregon, talked about fires there too. AFAIK she skipped work yesterday cause of the 80mph winds.

It's been a very orange-looking morning, and earlier, ash was falling like light snow. A friend up in Oregon is on level 1 evacuation alert, one of my co-workers who lives in the foothills east of Fresno has probably already evacuated, and a lot of communities near here are on alert. And those are all widely separated fires - just a few of the very large number that are spread out over a range of about 1,000 miles.
The fire near here (the Bobcat Fire) is in very steep canyons full of dry brush in back country that's hard to get to, which makes it much harder to control.

I don't know firsthand what it must be like, but I'll say with whatever sympathy I can that I hope you all stay safe! It sounds really scary and not fun :(

Thanks! Where I am is far enough from the fire front to be reasonably out of the way (although I don't want any burning embers drifting this way), but today, the air tasted like smoke, and the sky was brownish-gray. My Twitter feed is full of pictures of flames advancing down the hillsides toward Monrovia, a town just a few miles away, where I used to live in the early 90s. We just have too many apocalypses going on at once!
