School is starting on Monday. I’ve spent the past month in meetings and trainings to prepare for the school year. Teaching 6th-8th grade self-contained math classes. Until as late as yesterday, I thought I was going to be an inclusion teacher, but now I have my own classes and I’m really happy with that. (Use Google if you’re unfamiliar with all the special education lingo lol.)

That sounds very challenging, but I know you'll do a great job, and yes, stay safe!!!
And for special ed kids at that age, what you'll be doing could turn out to be an important and positive part of their lives, both for what they learn, and in terms of being in a good and supportive classroom environment.

School is starting virtually here until at least the first week of November (depending on how things go). It's tiring being online all day though.

How to make karaage, in English…

Recipes from America's Test Kitchen are pretty reliable, or at least more reliable than other recipes you might find by simply googling, so I think I might try this.

^^ I think that in some ways, online group communication requires greater effort to keep track of what's going on than the equivalent face-to-face situation. If I'm physically in front of a group and speaking, I can generally read the room with just a few glances, but online, that same level of awareness seems to take a lot of ongoing spot-checking and concentration. And in a lot of ways, I'm usually more relaxed in a face-to-face group.

118, that is madness. I think of summers here in NY as unbearably hot and muggy, but the worst it’s ever been in my lifetime is a comparatively cool 104. I did experience a 111F heatwave in Phoenix, but that stuff they say about “dry heat” is kind of true. It felt hot but wasn’t impossible.

Good luck, stay indoors.

I'ts 4:30 AM and the temperature is 87 F - the projected high in Covina is supposed to be 115 F. It's dry heat, but even so, the basic rule is don't do anything outside unless you really have to - and inside, stay as close to the A/C as possible. This is pretty much Arizona weather - but it's a little unusual so close to L.A.

The west is baking for sure. Dry heat or not, 118 is still insanely hot. Stay cool and stay hydrated!

We haven't reached 100 yet but our heat indices have been around 110 for the last few weeks. Add a dew point of close to 80... It's oppressive.
