Re: Agents of SHIELD, agreed, lots of twists, but at the same time still feeling like filler to me.

Spoiler: show
Also I was annoyed by the lazy approach that they are taking to the Grandfather Paradox. Mack has laid out that this version of time travel isn't subject to the butterfly effect. Small changes sort of dampen out over time, so that the "future" isn't altered unless you do something catastrophic like kill off a key player. OK, I'm fine with that. But that means that when Jiaying was apparently killed, obviously she's not really going to stay dead because then Daisy would never have been born. At least, the characters seem worried about her winking out of existence. But more than that -- IF Nathaniel Malick had killed Jiayang, and Daisy was never born, then he would never have gotten his Quake powers from her, and not been in a position to kill Jiaying in the first place. Grandfather Paradox invoked. So why are we even going down this path? It seems a pointless feint.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is still technically in the MCU, so I figure they're operating under the same rules of time travel as Avengers: Endgame. Their timeline has already been changed dramatically, and they've already given up on trying to restore the history they remember. Their only mission now is to stop Sybil.

So I don't think the Grandfather Paradox is an issue anymore, but we have the three remaining episodes to find out.

S.H.I.E.L.D. got meta there for a second. :crying:

Spoiler: show
By that I meant, Mack and "Quake" were talking about what it will be like after their last mission, will they just become friends who run into each other every so often and catch up? It's not a stretch to read that as a meta-conversation about the future of Henry Simmons, Chloe Bennet, and the rest of the MAoS actors.

Spoiler: show
It was about as good an ending as I could've hoped for. I still didn't care for the Nathaniel character as a main villain -- he was just so one-dimensionally evil and never rose above that, even in his completely predictable betrayal of Kora (leading to his inevitable downfall). I grew to like the Garrett character. There was something appealingly loopy about him even as a henchman, and I was glad he went out on the side of the angels. I admit I chuckled a bit when they announced they did it all for "family"... Marvel's Agents of Fast and F.U.R.I.O.U.S.

Jeez, even I feel spoiled by this one…

…but I gotta say, it looks AMAZING.

Even if it ends up sucking hard, I appreciate the obvious attempt to do justice to the source material; in that respect, it's already better than most of the X-Men movies.

For reference…

From another thread…

Amped wrote:Anime talk : the 2009 Anime film "Summer Wars" (highly recommend)

Summer Wars (2009) is gorgeous, but The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006) is the better film. Same writer/director team at the same studio.

I haven't seen Wolf Children (2012), which was the third film by that team.
