That's sad! Like all the Monty Python members, he made life more bearable for so many of us for so long!

I was just about done with my browsing at Green Apple Books in San Francisco this evening when I spotted this on the shelf. WTF?!

I've been aware of Bloomsbury's 33⅓ series for quite some time. Each of these little books is usually a monograph on one specific record album. I enjoyed reading Jenn Pelly's volume on the Raincoats' self-titled debut about a year ago.

I wasn't aware of the 33⅓ Japan series before today, though. Books already published in this series include one on Perfume's Game, and the forthcoming titles include one on Shonen Knife's Happy Hour. The volume I saw (and bought) today is atypical in that it doesn't limit itself to one album, but rather discusses the title group as a whole, as well as the idol phenomenon in general. In fact, it doesn't appear to say much about the music at all, except as a commodity. I should also note that this is a scholarly, critical study, not a fluff piece, with 21 pages of endnotes and a 13-page bibliography.

What makes it more tragic is that his 13 year old daughter was with him. And his family is so young. It’s devastating. :(. Also the other family on board too. Whomever they were.

It's such a horrible, sad thing, and it seems so wrong.
