the Kanji (本気ボンバー！！) could be read two ways "Maji Bomber" or "Honki Bomber" but they used Maji Bomber.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think actually it can ONLY be read as Honki, or that at least, honki is a much more common reading for those kanji, and that he just applied the "maji" reading to it because the meaning of the words honki and maji are very close. Is there even a kanji for "maji"?? I think it's always written in hiragana.

It's sort of similar to like, Yume Miru 15. He wrote it as Yume Miru 15sai which led people to believe it would be read, like, yume miru jugosai, but in fact it's read yume miru fifteen.

The kanji for maji would be 真面 from 真面目 (majime) which means "serious". The meanings of the words "maji" and "majime" are different though, and as Pav said it's usually written in hiragana (or katakana) as the kanji would make it seem more serious and more as "majime" than it really is.
