^ I stopped watching after the second season. I've been meaning to get back into it, along with a few other shows that I got distracted from.

And so begins Phase 4 of the MCU.

You're thinking "But she died in 'Endgame', didn't she?". Yes, she did. This is set immediately after Captain America: Civil War, when she escaped from the battle at the airport.

They couldn't do a typical origin story for her because she was introduced waaaaay back in Iron Man 2, so instead they've reframed it all as a "going home" story. Clever.

On Netflix's Midnight Diner (Shinya Shokudo) : Tokyo Stories Season 2 Episode 4 "Fried Chicken", Asuka Hinoi appears briefly as a minor character on the show. She appears as a friend of the focus character and a gravure idol.

I was pretty surprised to see her again. Didn't recognize her at first.

Finally got to sit down and watch the first episode of the Netflix adaptation of 'The Witcher'

From the perspective of someone who has played every game and read every book, that was an exceptionally good start and I can't wait to watch the rest.
The first episode is essentially the 'The Lesser Evil' short story from 'The Last Wish' with a bit of overarching lore slipped in.

Cavill nails Geralt. His performance is of course different from Doug Cockle in the games, but it remains very true to the character.

^ I saw the whole thing. I haven't played the games or read the book, but from my perspective the first episode was the weakest and it just got better as it went along. Without spoiling anything I'll add that the other main character is phenomenal, just wow.

It's nothing really like GoT, so people expecting that are going to be disappointed. It feels more like it takes place in the Xena: Warrior Princess world.

More than five years ago…

Spent much of the day reading and managed to finish Locke & Key by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez. Gothic mystery/horror with an interesting fantasy twist involving the eponymous key(s).

It was very good, but I think it could have been better; the concluding part, "Omega & Alpha", felt rushed, like the creators wrapped things up a little too neatly and just wanted to move on. But at the same time, given what actually happens leading up to it, a rushed conclusion might have been inevitable. Once the mystery breaks, things happen in a hurry.

I'll need to think about it for a while. I'd like to reread it, but being a mystery, it might not bear rereading. One of the main characters even says, early on, "You can't understand, because you're reading the last chapter of something, without having read the first chapters." Those "first chapters" are revealed in the course of the story, so there would be much less impact the second time around.

I dunno, I might reread it simply to see if I notice more of the visual clues hidden along the way. And Rodriguez's style of illustration is perfectly suited to hiding visual clues.

It was also shot as a pilot for Fox, but it didn't get picked up. Too bad.

Well, Netflix picked it up…



From what I can see in this trailer, it looks to be slightly less "gothic horror" and slightly more "fantasy adventure" than the graphic novels. The graphic novels were definitely not for kids, but this looks like it could be. Other than that, however, it is spot on. I'm looking forward to it, even though I already know how it ends.

Marvel mutants… in a horror movie?

This is Fox's cinematic universe, for the X-Men franchise and all of their associated characters. As opposed to Disney's cinematic universe, for the Avengers franchise and all of their associated characters. Just FYI.

In the comics, the New Mutants were the first "junior" class/team at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, back in the '80s and early '90s, after the original X-Men from the '60s and '70s grew up and became full-time adventurers. To put it in context that H!P fans will understand, the New Mutants were to the X-Men as the H!P Kids were to Morning Musume.

The five members of the New Mutants depicted in this movie are, from 1:02 to 1:09: Illyana Rasputin (Magik), Roberto da Costa (Sunspot), Rahne Sinclair (Wolfsbane), Danielle Moonstar (Mirage), and Sam Guthrie (Cannonball). You can also probably guess who's who just by matching the character names to the appropriately ethnic cast members. The X-Men and the New Mutants were doing the "diversity" thing decades ago; Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created the whole concept of mutants in the Marvel Universe as a parable for racism in America, and then Chris Claremont expanded it to cover immigration, multiculturalism, homosexuality, and the AIDS epidemic. And yes, that's actress Maisie Williams as Rahne.

Anyhow, this movie supposedly is based on the Demon Bear storyline from The New Mutants #18–20, circa 1984. (Note Dani's necklace at 0:56 and 1:07.) I can see how they'd make a horror movie out of that source material. Of course, many of Fox's adaptations of the X-Men franchise have been rather loose, sometimes verging on unrecognizable to long-time fans of the comics, so I can only guess at the details of this movie. But if it turns out to be as good as Deadpool, Logan, and Legion, then I don't mind them taking some liberties.

Sorry for expounding like this, I'm sure most of you couldn't care less, but this is the stuff I grew up with. The X-Men and New Mutants were my jam in the '80s, and it makes me a little giddy to see them finally adapted like this.

This is finally being released as well, since they finalized the Disney/Fox merger and therefore the Avengers/X-Men merger. And with an actual release date comes a new trailer that shows more use of mutant abilities…



Yellow-on-black for the title is a nod to the classic yellow-on-black uniforms at Xavier's School, and the "scratchy" lettering could be nod to the art style of Bill Sienkiewicz, who drew the Demon Bear story. Little touches like that make it feel like they're really trying to do justice to the source material.

Not sure if anyone here has been watching "Evil" (CBS), but if not, I highly recommend it. The most recent episode makes me never wanna set foot in a hospital again.
Some might find some of the content kind of silly; I feel like it works well with all the other things going on.
Worth noting is Michael Emerson playing an absolute creep who just so happens to be an incel! He does a great job with the role.

I've also been enjoying "Prodigal Son" (Fox). Michael Sheen was made for that role of his.

I have Amazon Prime now, so I'm open to suggestions on things to watch. I have the last season of "Mr. Robot" saved cause I kept forgetting to record it. I also have the first 2 seasons of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" saved.

Even if you don't like tokusatsu the current season of Kamen Rider has been killing it so far, been well written with good characters and with the show taking the sci-fi theme of the season seriously.
