Sometimes, yeah. I'd say it was my WiFi, but it lags even with my LTE. It's not a big deal to me or anything, I just think it's kind of interesting.

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all. Not counting my colitis flare, I've been sick for weeks, but I'm finally getting over a severe case of sinusitis. Now my big problem is arthritis!
We got a late start on our dinner... We had no plumbing for the better part of 24 hours. It finally got fixed late this morning, so I'm definitely thankful that I can flush my toilet again.
We've had plumbing issues ever since moving here. Turns out some of the pipes in the front yard were 2 different diameters without having a proper way to transition. Wow.

Well, I myself use the site with signatures & avatars off.
Sometimes it loads half a page then seems to get stuck at a particular post for a while before finally being able to cross that hurdle.

The last time this happened, it was the PHP script that processes the [video] tag. And then it went away for a while. And then it came back again.

I saw it too, but not for a couple days now; the site is working fine for me.

Update: They have to replace the HD but they think they can recover the data. My new HD will only be half as big but will supposedly be faster. Total repair costs will be around $450. I won't get the PC back until Thursday.

Update: Firefox on my tablet has become unstable, occasionally acting like I just hit ro (the square symbol) when I had not. Also, I will be snowed in until Wednesday, just in time to take my car in for engine light. This too will pass.

Anyone else having the site hang for a while (or take a very long time to load) after clicking on a thread?
I'm talking 10+ seconds before the page loads. It's seems random, one minute I have the issue, the other I don't.

I've noticed twice that a thread that partially loads, only loads up to the point of an embedded tweet before taking its time to load the rest

Last update: Back in the saddle. Lost about a week of work, but it could have been a lot worse.

Now I have the unenviable task of tweeking the PC so it does not drive me crazy.

It's still happening quite frequently for me, but I don't think it's embedded tweets, it's too random for that.

I've logged out, logged in, switched browsers, tried it on mobile. Makes no difference.

I'm 98% certain it's a server-side PHP script, so no, the client-side platform or browser doesn't matter.

It's really only a question of which script. There are a lot of them in the forum software — that's why it's called phpBB. It could be the script that processes the [video] tag, it could be the script that processes the [tweet] tag, it could be almost anything that determines how each page is composed. And given the nature of this forum, of course, we have embedded content on almost every page.

Unfortunately, PHP is old and not particularly robust compared to other, more modern web technologies. The main reason why it remains as popular as it is is because it's easy for web hosting providers to offer it as a feature to "shared hosting" customers. It can do a lot without requiring administrator privileges on the server, but the trade-off is that all of those scripts are run only when the page is requested.

I'm just guessing that possibly one of the links or embedded images in the gif thread may be the most recent culprit. I've pushed the thread over to the next page; wondering if that will relieve the issue.
