I got a sense of that from reading about a new restaurant in Washington that seems to be heavy on the Ethiopian and Salvadoran.

I ate at an Ethiopian restaurant (the Red Sea) in DC when I was there in 1994, but I didn't like it as much as the Blue Nile in Berkeley, which unfortunately has closed since then (as has the Red Sea, apparently). There are still plenty of Ethiopian restaurants in my area to choose from, but I still haven't found any that I like quite as much as the Blue Nile, which was my favorite restaurant in the world.

One month later, I finally cooked up a half-pound of my frozen manti. It turned out well — maybe a tad overcooked, but still much better than the gristly stuff I had at Turkish Kitchen in Berkeley. Of course, I had to put my own spin on it: instead of putting regular tomato sauce into the broth, I used El Pato Salsa de Chile Fresco to give it a little zing.

I ended up ordering Ethiopian food the other day. It was good, but there's a small family restaurant like a block away that I've been to several times and they're super nice so in the future I'll just not be so lazy and walk there.

There's also a lot of good pho in my area, which I'm happy about.

Also happy about Thanksgiving week next week because I only have two days of work at school and no evening classes at all, and I'm going to Chicago for Thanksgiving. One of my friends here is doing a Friendsgiving this Saturday, and I'm going to try making some pies (probably one apple and one pumpkin) even though I've never made pies on my own before.

That reminds me - there's a small Ethopian restaurant about three blocks away - I should go there sometime soon. And you will do well making pies.

JPLOP not doing secret santa this year?

JPLOP needs some sort of activity besides H!P Survivor to keep active. Ideas would be nice.

Hardly anyone volunteered for Secret Santa last year.

Yeah. Last year we had a flake out during Secret Santa. Such sadness. Which didn’t help with the small number of participants.
