I’m still wrapping my head around you teaching 8th grade math when I’m pretty sure you were IN the 8th grade back in the day

I was in 9th grade when I joined JPM, but yeah lol. My students think I’m in college so I’d just tell them I’m actually 29.

When I was in 8th grade, I think all the textbooks were older than I was. If there had been any sort of "current events" reflected in the word problems, they would probably have been about the Cuban Missile Crisis or the number of girls screaming for the Beatles in the Ed Sullivan Theater.

I was in 7th and 8th grade for that extremly short moment when the California school system decided to throw out the traditional math curriculum and teach us Boolean algebra. I was very happy with it, because there were no numbers (except when they got into things like the binary and octal systems), and we got to work out logic problems and draw Venn diagrams. And it did turn out to be quite useful, all in all.

Spoiler: show
The classes were so experimental that the textbooks weren't even set in regular type - someone had to type the camera-ready copy out on an IBM Selectric (because it was the only thing that could handle the special characters), and they were paper-bound in plain covers, like publisher's advance review copies. :fear:

It was a state experiment - Big Boolean had all its money tied up in buying a new coffee-pot for the the engineering department. XD

The idea behind the experiment was to prepare my generation for... well, basically for now. But parents hated it, because they couldn't help their kids with the homework, so the program got cut - so the cyberpunk future got put off for several more decades, and we all dropped out of school, took bad drugs, and wound up cultivating embarrassing hairstyles and worse sideburns and listening to overblown music with 45-minute drum solos when we were in our 20s.

I had an odd dream. In it, I was Fukuchan and was on a big stage with a couple of other girls receiving a music award for being part of some one-off subunit. I want to say Duu was one of the other girls in the subunit but I can't be sure. After we received our accolades, the other two girls ran off the stage and the rest of MM.'19 came on and then we started performing Wagamama Ki no Mama and some other old hits. Except, I suddenly couldn't remember any of my dance moves, not a single one. After a few moments of pretending and trying to just mimic what the other girls were doing, I gave up and sneaked off the stage. Naturally the others were able to adapt to my departure and keep the performance going seamlessly. At some point an announcement was made that I had taken ill, and the show carried on.
