I just did a Google search for Dauphin Island - it looks like fun!

It's interesting! There's a fairly long bridge that feels like you're about to hit the edge of the Earth when you're going over the highest point of it.
You almost forget you're on an island at first. Then you see the evacuation sirens, all the houses on stilts, oil rigs in the distance, and lots of water.
I'm sure 90% of the houses on the beach were rebuilt. I don't see the appeal of living in an area prone to hurricanes, let alone rebuild in the exact same spot. To each their own, I reckon!

Also I'm going home tomorrow since they've lifted the tropical storm watch for my county. I'm glad; I really miss my comfortable bed.

The images and videos coming out of the Bahamas are insane. The storm hasn't moved at all in the last 24 hours.

Mobile is interesting. It's hot as hell, that's for sure. It's definitely got more of a "southern" vibe than peninsular Florida...
But people also aren't quite as friendly as other cities I've been to in the south. So yeah.

I'm thinking of maybe checking out the Dauphin Island Sea Lab tomorrow.

I've been to southern AL a bunch of times, but most of the time it was just to eat seafood somewhere then drive back to Auburn, AL, where my parents live. I visited USS Alabama in Mobile and that was cool. The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo in Gulf Shores is awesome (because there's a lemur encounter where you can sit in the lemur cage and they jump on you and all ).

What!? Now I wish I had gone there.

I got back home on Wednesday evening, which is good for a few reasons.
1) My house and neighborhood are fine. No water, no power outages, nothing!
2) Tolls got reinstated like, yesterday or something. So we got through without having to pay.
3) Due to a bit of a screw up by the post office, our mail carrier didn't get the "stop mail" notice until yesterday. So we had mail from Saturday in the box. This actually turned out to be good:

I had a letter from the SSA ODAR. It's a notice of decision. :O
The decision reached: Fully favorable!

I have a few steps left for SSI but I should be getting a letter after that with more details.

Got my first award letter today.

For the "child's" benefits. It goes back to February 2017, but for now, my first payment will be on/around October 3rd for the month of September. Happy (almost) birthday to me!
They're withholding some pending however much I get from SSI (also if SSI goes back as far as this does), and also withholding an amount for the attorney fees.
They're also taking out a monthly premium for Medicare. I'm actually more than okay with this, because my current insurance sucks.
I should be getting my card in about 2 weeks, but I'll probably go ahead and start checking out some Part D coverage...

A hail storm knocked out my power. I'm posting this from my laptop tethered to my phone.

I wasn't able to shut down my desktop in time, so I'm worried that something got corrupted during the shut down. In particular, the VM software that I use for work is notoriously poor at handling crashes, but the automatic snapshot ran just a few hours ago so I shouldn't lose much, if anything.

I also have a load of laundry in the dryer.
