Congrats, CBG!

Speaking of the end of the school year, this is the time in Berkeley when there's lots of discarded furniture out on the sidewalks. So I was walking to the bus stop after work, and I saw a couple of bookcases across the street. I kept walking down the sidewalk while I was looking across the street and WHAM! Idiot Boy ran right into a signpost. The collision bent the frames of my glasses and caused some bleeding, and it's still a little sore around my left eye over six hours later.

It didn't stop me from going to see the Avengers (the seminal S.F. punk band, not Iron Man and Co.) at my neighborhood bar, though. The show differed somewhat from the times I've seen them before. Penelope's voice was ragged and hoarse, and she apologized repeatedly for it. On the plus side, though, original drummer Danny Furious flew in from Stockholm, so for the first time I was able to see the band with 75% of the original lineup. (But it will never be 100%. Rest in peace, Jimmy.)

I'm glad to see that Penelope and the Avengers still going, in whatever form they can.

Pop-culture and personal time-scales are both so varible sometimes. With Jpop idol groups, ten (or even five) years ago can be history, and fifteen years can be ancient history, while in a different genre or scene, forty years or more can seem like a year or two ago, only a little earlier. And they're both equally legitimate ways of experiencing time. Time is weird, life is weird, people are weird, and the universe is weird (which I think covers the four basic weird groups).

Congrats, CaptainBerryzGiraffe! I still remember when you were just starting college.

I'm moving to DC in 3 weeks. I'm really looking forward to it, and honestly, things have been really hard because of the moving anticipation. I haven't been able to eat properly for a while and am going to see the doctor to go back on anxiety medication. I just want to be there starting things already. I don't want to keep working jobs I really can't care too much about here (even though I like the people), although I'm keeping my freelance linguist job in addition to my teaching position because DC is not a cheap city.

I'm treating myself to a nice apartment walking distance from a lot of things because I miss having that. I've sort of had that in Chicago, but you can never feel too safe walking around certain areas in my neighborhood so I don't usually just walk out to relax like I could totally do back in Milwaukee. Chicago is really not as bad as outsiders think it is (well, depending on the area), but even around my neighborhood I hear about scary things more frequently than I'm comfortable with. I also don't want to deal with roommates anymore.

Good luck, esm. My sis lived in DC for a number of years and enjoyed her time there a great deal. Her description of the various neighborhoods made it sound like social life was very fractured there. Like despite the overall population, she found that her (social work) community formed a relatively small pond in that giant political ocean, and she'd keep running into the same fish over and over again. Not that that never happened when she was in St. Louis but I guess there was a power multiplier effect from being in Washington. And those close connections came in handy later on when she moved on professionally.

Anyway, back on topic: (Memorial Day no) Duck-setsu na Central Park:

Great picture, Zunu. Very green! :thumbs-up:

Good luck with the move, esm.

My brother had a health thing last week. He's fine (physically), but now he's taking his hypertension medication like he should've been doing in the first place.
