Story time!

I’ve been in the process of trying to adopt a cat. It’s been slow because one, I’m picky and two. In most adoption places here in Massachusetts if you want to adopt an animal you need to fill out an application and put in references and basically your life story and where you live, job, etc. Of all the applications I put in, 1 accepted me so far. I’m put at the bottom because I’ve never owned a pet before. Now, if I go into the city, I probably wouldn’t have this problem of getting myself a pet but I don’t. So I have to play by the rules available to me. It’s not like I have all day to go searching. I have limited windows. Anyway I sidetracked.

One adoption agency accepted me and because they are run through PetSmart my options are usually limited to what I see is what I get. I said I was picky. This agency is pretty much set on adopting out sets. What they have now are all older cats. They continue to get more cats in monthly and because it’s “kitten” season they will likely get in more. Massachusetts is a no kill state. They take animals and fix them but they won’t kill them unless absolutely necessary. So, I’ve been waiting and they also know exactly what I want. Theirs a small fee but I’ll be getting a vetted cat whose been chipped, neutered, checked for all diseases and has its shots. The perfect package for a first time pet owner.

Now my problem. My friend from high school saw what I was going through on Facebook and told me her cat was having kittens. Last night she had them and let me know I could have one or two if I wanted.

Now I’m at a crossroad. Because despite the fact I’m cool with a vetted cat, I don’t know it’s past history. Where as a kitten is a freaking baby cat and I think every kid dreams of owning a kitten or a puppy at some point. I know i would be starting from 0 with a kitten. But I honestly don’t know what I’d be getting myself into.

So, anyone who has had a cat or kittens in the past. Should I stay the course with the adoption thing or get myself done free kittens in about 8 weeks?

Or should I get the adopted cat now and in 8 weeks get a kitten?

I have no idea but kittens are dancing in my head. I need to be talked off a ledge. Or at least given a rope.

If the vetted cat is a female, and if the kitten is weaned and able to eat solid food when you get it, the whole thing could work out pretty well. The older cat would probably be reasonably good (even if a little grumpy sometimes ) with the kitten, and the kitten would probably liven things up for the older cat (at least based on my experience).
If the older cat is a male, it might work out along those lines, but it's more iffy - in the wild, feral tomcats sometimes kill kittens, so I don't 100% trust them.
And if the kitten isn't weaned and able to eat solid food, it can be very difficult and complicated to take care of, so it's better to give the kitten time to be able to eat on its own.

And for that matter, the older, semi-tame tomcat who lives with me attacked my leg for no apparent reason about an hour ago. I yelled at him, but there wasn't much point in doing anything else. He's half-civilized and so am I, so we put up with each other.

Reminder: this Saturday is both Star Wars Day (i.e., May the Fourth) and Free Comic Book Day.

I skipped the long line in front of the comic book store and went to the public library, where there was a good selection of Free Comic Book Day comics and NO line. I picked up a few TV tie-ins that interested me: Stranger Things, Doctor Who, and Buffy/Firefly.

An Encyclopedia of Claims, Frauds, and Hoaxes of the Occult and Supernatural, by James Randi ($2)
Lipstick Traces: A Secret History of the Twentieth Century, by Greil Marcus ($2) — I've been meaning to read this book for years.

Hey y'all, I'm hoping you can help me with a problem!

I started having some problems with album art not showing up on my phone's music player. I went on the computer and re-tagged specific albums with HQ art, and while it helped with most, there were still 2 or 3 that didn't show up.
I googled my problem first, and after doing what a few websites said, none of them are showing up now. I cleared out the SD card and started over with only 4 albums I really wanted to hear, but the problem is still there. I can see them fine on my PC!

Some people will point to the "adjusted for inflation" chart, but I think that's comparing apples to oranges because many of the movies on that chart are from the time before home media, when the only way to see a movie was in the theater. Once you count post-release home media — VHS/DVD sales and rentals, television broadcasts, streaming, downloads, and so on — newer movies do as well or better than older movies, even after adjusting for inflation.

In other news, I had Kraft Macaroni & Cheese (or Kraft Dinner, if you're Canadian) for the first time in many years.

Good golly, it was lowest quality pasta I've ever eaten. Very low protein, very high starch. And we won't even talk about the industrial waste-orange powder. If you're paying more than 50 cents per box for it, you're paying too much.

Do yourself a favor a learn how to make your own cheese sauce: start with a basic béchamel (butter, flour, milk), add shredded cheese, season to taste with mustard and/or hot sauce. It's really not much more work than adding butter and milk to the boxed stuff, and then you can put it on any pasta you want.

I agree it's a phenomenal achievement regardless of how your slice it but one advantage that Endgame has over previous-era films is that the digital transition is complete. Back when films were released on 35 or 70mm it was literally impossible for a 4000 screen simultaneous release as there weren't anywhere near that many prints made. A film was lucky to have 500 prints that would get passed around from theater to theater over the course of a months long run. Foreign releases would be months later, after N. America was mostly done. Near the end of the run, the prints would be severely degraded in quality due to multiple showings. By that time the discount theaters would pick it up and show the film for a cut rate price, with correspondingly cut rate accommodations. As you said, it was indeed apples and oranges

Friends have moved to Rocklin, Ca and took these pictures at the entrance to their housing park. She said geese usually hatch first then ducks but duck eggs are being destroyed by the development to keep the population down. She said there were duck parades which is what I wanted to see but this will have to do.
