That sounds like a really good trip to DC!

Wait, Nanami's graduating? How did I miss that wow... XD
I've been in a period of checking back every once in a while on H!P, but haven't been as active as I was a few years ago. I wonder if it'll slowly fade out completely, or if it'll phase back in? I still listen to many songs and wait for all the new MV's. What's everyone else's experience with this?

Do you also know about Yuka graduating in June as well and how next Hello!Con is going to have 6-member Juice=Juice?

Their slow [single] releases is decreasing my interest. But I feel like that's normal for an i-fan?

I think that at this point, I stick around here largely for the community and the individual people who hang out or drop by.

As far as H!P goes, I've been off and on - I kind of drifted away after the end of the Platinum Era, but got interested again because I like the current members of MoMusu.

Spoiler: show
In terms of Jpop as a broad category, I've been taking an extended vacation from Western pop culture for the past 15+ years, and I'm not sure if and when I'll come back to it. I basically immerse myself in Asian pop music, and simply keep track of the pop-culture world around me, without doing much more than checking into it from time to time. I've been around for a long time (long enough so that I was pretty much there at the creation or at least close to it for a lot of stuff in American popular music and culture), and I'm OK with staying away rom Western pop culture for however long I feel like doing so.
As far as I can tell, I'm mostly taking a vacation from my own emotional history as I was growing up and on through my 20s, but I'm also OK with that. It actually has helped me to get a much better perspective on a lot of the BS inside my head - or at least that's what I tell myself. XD
So - maybe our pop-culture environment is very closely tied into our emotional dynamics.

I assume J=J will be 6-member bc both Yuka and Nanami are graduating, right? Yes, I did know Yuka is graduating... But I have no problem with 6-nin J=J because that's where they were at the beginning! lol

oh, I see, so I'm definitely not the only one. However, I've been into Metal music way more lately, so I guess that's slowly bringing me back to American culture- but not pop, because American pop is some of the worst trash I've ever heard :)

I haven't really paid much attention for a while now. Sometimes I'd check out MVs, but honestly nothing has caught my attention for several years now. The only J-Pop artist I still listen to (and actually listen to a lot) is Perfume.

I feel like a lot of the stuff I hear on the radio is trash, and I mostly hear what's on the radio often enough only because I take Uber/Lyft a lot, and the drivers usually have the radio on.

But for many years now I've been listening to a lot of more independent pop artists that I think consistently put out really good pop music (e.g., Charli XCX, Tove Styrke, MØ, Tove Lo) & are genuine and overall great to follow on social media. Well, none of the ones I mentioned are American though, but I think they spend enough time in LA and tour the US often.

The Grammys are on tonight. So not interested.

As the old-school members leave H!P, I find myself paying less and less attention. I've bought the Factory groups' albums out of loyalty, but I honestly couldn't name any of their members or any of their songs off the top of my head (covers of OG H!P songs excluded).

That's true for me, too.

This is strange: ever since the October Update of Windows 10 was installed on my computer Windows doesn't recognize the ℃ symbol (as in ℃-ute any more).

Image

I've had absolutely no issues with the October Update except for this.
This only happens in File Explorer and one other application (MusicBee), not in any other application (iTunes, Tweeten. Handbrake, makeMKV, paint.NET,...).

I could use °C instead (using Alt+0176 + capital C) but that messes up alphabetical sorting by bumping them all to the top of the list.
I've messed around with language settings in Windows, but no luck so far.

There were only a few nominations I liked. SOPHIE's Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides for Best Dance/Electronic Album (didn't win though), and I like Dua Lipa, so it was cool she won some stuff. And I've always liked Lady Gaga in general.

The rest were whatever. I can't get into a single song by Ariana Grande and don't even like her voice. I've tried for years.

I keep up with a lot of new Western music though and it's a lot of pop and artists that do pretty well so it's not even just a bunch of random hipster stuff, but I still don't really listen to stuff you hear on the radio and award shows, so I feel like when people say American/Western pop sucks they're looking at such a limited range of it. Like if I just go to the Top 50 lists on Spotify I think it's a bunch of trash too.

Well, most people don't really care about discovering new music once they're past 20 or something, and I feel like I'm constantly trying to listen to new things while also obsessively listening to stuff I already like a lot, like not just newer releases but whatever from the 60s onward.
