I actually like the un-idol-ish, unpolished "just some kids performing at the county fair" kind-of-awkwardness of it -- somehow that, combined with the fact that they are good, and that Maina's such a powerful singer, just makes it better.
Not to mention Eon's sheepdog bangs.

TU: Is this a group where some are dancers and the others singers, or was that just for this song?

They have one main singer (Maina), and the rest of them dance and do some backup singing. They came out of a dance school (HappyTime which has now branched out into vocal and general performing arts training, a bit like Runtime (ZONE) did in Sapporo), so they do have a heavy emphasis on dance, although some of the backup singers seem to be pretty good on their own. Maina's mother runs the school, and her father's a guitarist -- I think she grew up singing and dancing from the time she was little. I'd guess that it also explains some of their kind of strange and very retro taste in material (an extremely heavy late-60s/early-70s American top-40 rock influence tht even has me thinking WTF?!? at times), since she said that she grew up listening to that kind of music.

A lot of their stuff has been taken down -- they may be negotiating (or have already signed) with a major label or management company -- they had a great and very funny cover of Queen's "We Will Rock You", and they used to do the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" live, but at least this cover is up for the moment...

San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and two NY shows

Turns out I'm probably gonna go to the Chicago show because a friend wanted to go, so we bought tickets.

Even though I haven't listened to Perfume much in recent years, I bought my ticket for the San Francisco show as soon as they went on sale yesterday morning.

With all the various Japanese groups and '90s alt-rock reunion tours coming to town, I'll be going to soooo many concerts this year!

Song is called HandClap. I saw June 10th as the release date. Self-titled third album.
