I need some new jpop and kpop recommendations! I lost my harddrive to a failed power source (6+ year old computer!) and my new one has a 1TB harddrive and so I'm starting fresh.

To start, anything by Yoko Kanno (writer/producer) and Maaya Sakamoto (performer). Even my mother likes it.

Second the above. Remember what we imagined/hoped that Ayaya was gonna be like when she started doing mature stuff? That's basically a description of Maaya Sakamoto on an average day.

Hmm I've only heard "Tune the Rainbow" but I definitely love it a lot.

It's important to note that except for "Triangler" and a couple other songs from the Macross Frontier soundtrack, Maaya Sakamoto and Yoko Kanno haven't worked together in several years. Sakamoto's voice is still nice on her recent albums, but the music lacks that certain something. So stick to the first four albums — Grapefruit (1997), Dive (1998), Lucy (2001), Shonen Alice (2003) — if you want the good stuff.

EDIT: I see that Kanno did a couple tracks on each of Sakamoto's last two albums, but eh, it's not really the same. Yunagi Loop (2005) was such a disappointment that I gave up.

Anyhow, other favorites besides "Triangler"…

"Yakusoku wa Iranai" (from Escaflowne)

"Pocket wo Kara ni Shite" (from Escaflowne)

And yes, all of their stuff together was this good. Basically, just go here and here (their two "best" albums on YouTube, although "best" is relative in this case).

Best song EVER. While at work on Saturday this song kept playing in my head!

This is an awesome karaoke song.

I wanted to do this at karaoke but Japan didn't have this one! T___T This song still makes my day a little brighter
